The hypocrisy shown by Evangelical Christians is quite outrageous. Sean Feucht is against killing fetuses but he is okay with getting his followers infected with Covid and having some of them probably killed by the virus just so they can attend his concert.

“Come home. Come home tonight. Come on, run to the cross. Run to the cross. In the name of Jesus, run, run, run quickly,” Feucht says in one video.

It is also quite absurd that California's government can't do anything to stop this gatherings.

Even the ones wearing masks have them under their noses or protecting their chin, the blithering idiots.

All while LA hospitals have zero ICU spare beds

Sean Fuc*ed?

I know your specifically talking about track and trace here, but in terms of trying to prevent future flu deaths would you tolerate restrictions akin to what we face right now?

No, but they would not be required - the whole idea of track, trace and isolate is that you prevent what we face right now before it happens.

It serves no purpose any Labour leader going up against a Tory Pm at the best of times, let alone a worsening national emergency. Any Labour leader would be torn to shreds and blamed for undermining the response, we should all know that. Manifesto and deliver a clear message near election. Let people choice of 2019 play out, its not on my conscience.
So, basically, you're saying that the LP shouldn't oppose the Tories...just wait for 5 years and and try and profit from being a passive organisation that made a few pointed remarks from the wings while the country was suffering a major disaster on a number of fronts - health crisis, the cratering of the economy, and the socio-psychological collapse of its people?

You think that's what a responsible opposition party should do? Who on earth would reward such cowardice?

I don't know why they keep banging on about "the risk to children is small" - that's obviously not the issue and never has been. It's the fact they're super spreaders to more vulnerable people.

Just keep them closed for a month or two, it's not going to kill kids to miss that time but it would kill many others if they don't.

theres loads of time in the system to do it as well - just reduce the easter break, or extend the year into the summer

And presumably at the same time enforce work place closures for all non essential businesses and put all workers on furlough? So parents can stay at home with their children (of primary school age)

I'm not going to get into more arguments about how to manage outbreak effectively, I've done that enough times in this thread, not am I going to get drawn on looking at Europe for comparison like it's the only place we should compare against (comparing and contrasting country vs country in my opinion is apples and oranges), I disagree that vaccination is the 'only option', it isn't, it's the most effective and long lasting solution, but it's not the only one.

However, objectively the UK has been poor; we were initially slow to react, when we gained time (via Lockdown) we wasted it, we insentivised conditions to accelerate infection, we've flip flopped and u-turned on major decisions, we've dismissed criticism as 'hindsight', we've flirted with pseuedo-science and entertained the thoughts of libertarians pushing herd immunity.

I believe we should be comparing against most places, but Europe is where we are geographically (if no longer aligned in trade or whatever). not saying we couldn't do things differently, but we're in Europe, so it makes sense to compare.

I agree on the second para.

Is "we live with it and get on with it" really appropriate now? I mean, we have thousands of deaths a year from flu normally; actually trying to prevent them would at least keep a track and trace system gainfully employed.

We live with loads of things and get on with them and don't have people having to isolate

Have a track and trace system set up by all means. I'm not sure someone having to isolate when they catch a common cold is what we should be looking for as an upshot of all this, however (I'm sure that's not what they do in the Asian countries anyway).

Neither do I particularly want to wear a mask anywhere I go for the rest of my life. I'll do it for as long as needed, but not exactly gonna be taking my mask with me whenever the next time I get to go to a gig will be.
