I collapsed nearly a year ago today.
Hospitalised for three weeks.
Socially distanced ever since.

Ports shutting. Travel banned. Sounds dreadful.

Was hoping to be vaccinated by February due to being clinically vulnerable.

Ffs.
Easy to say, but dont let things get you down.

Things are bad, real bad, but they will improve, know that, they WILL improve.

Its very unlikely that it will kill more. The worry is the increased spread being so difficult to stop.

The scientists seem confident that the vaccine will still work so hopefully it will be fine.

From an evolutionary perspective the chances of it becoming less deadly than more is higher as its not in the virus' interest to kill its host (SARS died out as it killed people by the time it had chance to properly spread).

But still it doesn't sound like less people are dying so the vaccine is still essential.

Our best chances sound like it'll be the Oxford Vaccine being mass produced and given out much faster than the American ones.

Is called VUI-202012/01, so reckon 1st December, by 13th December there had been over 1000 confirmed case in South England.

Just reading stuff by New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group, who Whitty name dropped as responsible for identifying this strain, they have been warning this since September!
Took their time annoucning the new strains then...and all the while granting Tier 1 and 2 status to parts of the country that now look exposed...like Liverpool City Region...and promising a jolly Christmas

Johnson and Hancock are utter rats who are playing politics with millions of people's lives.

The Oxford one is not what we need. We need a vaccine that gives a very good chance of immunity. Imagine giving that Oxford vacccine to a 80 year old and telling them they have maybe between 50% to 60% chance of safety?

It's a 'kin dud and is only being entertained because it's a British led vaccine and it's cheap. You can bet your bottom dollar that those in power wont be letting their families be injected with it. They'll have the Pfizer vaccine.

Its still possible there will be a big increase in the amount of people vaccinated by February. Once the approval for the Oxford jab is given (maybe even thos week pre Christmas), then we can start ramping everything up.

I haven't seen anything that says the vaccines won't work with this strain. I'm pretty down about things myself right now and very fed up, but I think we're still heading in the right direction

One thing I don't get.
If it's 70 percent more transmitable, why aren't we being given advice on what to do to stop it?
Same as before/anything contagious; stay away from people, keep high levels of hygine (wash hands), cover face. The advice hasn't changed since March yet people really try to take liberties and exceptions.

I personally dont.

But Hancock put over a perfectly plausible time line this morning.

And when I say "they", I mean the scientific/bio community. Take it up with them.
The scientists who nodded through a load of BS right through this crisis?

That's reassuring.

This kinda bull is just plain scare mongering Dave.

The Oxford vaccine has a 90% effectiveness.

Dont let Dave fool you.

Between April 23 and Nov 4, 2020, 23 848 participants were enrolled and 11 636 participants (7548 in the UK, 4088 in Brazil) were included in the interim primary efficacy analysis. In participants who received two standard doses, vaccine efficacy was 62·1% (95% CI 41·0–75·7; 27 [0·6%] of 4440 in the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 group vs71 [1·6%] of 4455 in the control group) and in participants who received a low dose followed by a standard dose, efficacy was 90·0% (67·4–97·0; three [0·2%] of 1367 vs 30 [2·2%] of 1374; pinteraction=0·010). Overall vaccine efficacy across both groups was 70·4% (95·8% CI 54·8–80·6; 30 [0·5%] of 5807 vs 101 [1·7%] of 5829).

It's not scaremongering. It's science. It's range of efficacy is between 47% and 70% according to the company's own data.

If you had a choice of Pfizer or that Oxford gnats piss, which would you choose?

90% when given a low dose followed by a standard dose.

I will take that 1 please.

Flu vaccines are between 40-60 efficacy. The Oxford vaccine is between 60-90 efficacy dependent on two full doses or one half and one full dose. The ability to distribute and vaccinate the U.K. population is massively increased because of not requiring -70degree special storage. if anyone is offered this vaccine, grab it with both hands.....
