But, I’d guess that you’re seeing the same media as they are, but aren’t reacting in the same way.

A recurring theme of the last 9 months, has been that everyone thinks that they have precisely the most appropriate response to the pandemic, whereas everyone around them is either over or under-reacting.

It’s like the driving thing, where anyone driving faster than you is a maniac, and anyone driving slower is an idiot.
True, not saying I am perfect. Thing is, they really forget that not taking all those dusts, bacterias, viruses outside will make them weaker..Imagine a kid who never was out till aged 7, they will be sick first minute they are out.

I never met anyone not named my family indoors since March, but going full hysteria is a dangerous gamble imo. They are not doing themselves any favours.

i mean, I think it’s right that we all think we have the correct response. We wouldn’t deliberately have the wrong response, or we’d change it.

But there’s always some at the extreme ends, who’ve likely got it wrong.

For everyone who’s locked themselves up completely for 9 months, there’s someone else marching in groups of hundreds in Liverpool thinking they’re Mel Gibson shouting “Freedom”.

At least the former are likely only endangering themselves as opposed to endangering others.

So the Oxford Vaccine is 70% effective

Still good but not as high as the others - easier to store and distribute however.

No not quite - it could be 90% effective at a certain dosage (half dose then full dose), or as low as 62% effective (two full doses) and they have no clue why there is a discrepancy.

They shouldn't have said anything; all it's done is confuse. If they have no idea as to the actual efficacy of the thing they can't distribute it surely?

Yeah I mean I won't just stay at home the whole time but I'll still be restricting certain things I enjoy until I've been vaccinated. I'd rather do that than risk getting long covid TBH.
Fair enough, I think it's totally reasonable to be sensible.

Wearing a mask etc to the shops - I'm sure that'll be the 'norm' - even if not law - for the next year or so.

Then again wasn't the first vaccine (the pfizer one) only tested on around 100 people before they released the first 'it's 90% effective'?

Read that somewhere the other day though obviously not sure if it's been verified.

Just seems like all the announcement did was spark a 'race' to be first. I'm aware it had been expected that we'd see the first results of the Oxford trial around this time, though.

I think some people with underlying social anxieties have kinda used the virus as an excuse to not engage with people.
Weight gain is also a huge issue I think. Had a google meet with all my colleagues the other day and everyone has put on weight. Not me though. I’m still in peak condition.

Before all this he was a completely normal fella, went to the pub, went the match, went on holiday etc. It’s like someone flicked a switch in his head and stamped the word DEATH into his brain.

He won’t engage if you try and bring it up and ends up getting quite arsey. So I don’t bother now.

Does he need me to look after his missus for a few nights whilst he gets his head straight mate?

Dave, you're totally getting the wrong end of the stick.

Of course I will take it when it is available to me. But, as a 25-year-old who is probably healthier than your average person, I'm not going to be top of the list - and rightly so.

So as soon as it is available to me, I'll get it.

But me not having it - and other people in a similar group/age etc to me not having it - should not stop life returning to some form of normality in the meantime, as long as the people who need it to survive have it.
Isnt the actual point of any vaccine to kill the virus off as soon as possible ?

Yanno to stop it recirculating and even mutating.

Well we have a flu vaccine every year, to prevent the spread of that particular strain, yet it still mutates and comes around again the next year.

Surely the potential for viruses are always there - we just have the antibodies in our system to fight it off.

A flu jab doesn't mean you can't get flu and surely a COVID jab doesn't mean you can't get COVID. However, it shouldn't do any lasting damage if your body has the antibodies to fight it?

His missus has gone as nutty as him and although she goes to work, apparently she doesn`t leave her office all day ( other than to go to the toilet ) and no one is allowed in either - they have to stand at the door and talk to her lol

Viruses are spread primarily by symptomatic carriers. It can spread by asymptomatic means but it's not the same rate of infection.

Therefore, it doesn't matter if a 25 year old won't be bladdered by it - if they are coughing, they are still carriers and massive spreaders of the infection.

That's why you need to hit a high percentage of the population for a form of "herd immunity" with a vaccine. If everyone under 40 just thinks "sod it, I'll be fine anyway", then the virus stays in society at constant levels. Once immunity wanes when complacency sets in (let's face it, we don't even know how long immunity will last with a vaccine), then you'll see the elderly killed in big numbers again because the younger in society didn't get the jab.

The vaccine isn't really about you. But you should still take it to protect others.
