You’re spot on with the term “ weirdo “ as it perfectly describes my mate.

Perfectly healthy, hasn’t been out since late February, due to convincing himself that Armageddon is outside his front door.

The last time I tried to get him out, he simply stated that “ he wasn’t comfortable “ leaving the house.

The next excuse wil undoubtedly be, that he’s not prepared to leave the house until the vaccine is proven to work.

All this is due to reading online lunacy and doom and gloom cherry picked by the media.

So by my reckoning I may see him this time next year.

I’m sure there’s plenty like this across the country- weirdos.
Also, those people who are not out much, will be weak now when they contract any non covid virus, because their body demanded bits of it from them to develope immunity for the classical winter period..and they don't receive it...lots will be sick in the winter, non covid sicknesses. and they will think its covid and hospitals will be flooded...Cant work out some people.

There's been safe and obviously socially conscious - but then there's that extreme.

I know somebody exactly like your mate too, a guy I used to work with.

Admittedly, he must be about 20 stone, but he wasn't helping himself by just sitting inside all summer.

As far as I know - as he broadcasts his entire existence on Twitter - he's been out maybe once or twice for an actual walk (this is his words as of a few weeks ago).

Feel harsh but, y'know, if he'd maybe go on more walks, the odd run, he wouldn't feel such a need to lock himself away for the rest of time.

To be honest I don't really mind if people do what they have to do to feel comfortable. I can't cope if I'm in the house for a full day. I need to get out for a bit to clear my head, especially after work. I've been going to the gym, out a walk or a run etc and feel far better for it. That's why I'm really dreading my gym closing again in a couple of days time. I don't think it's going to be good for me at this time of year and I'll struggle for motivation to do outdoor exercise.

But equally I've no problem with others choosing to stay inside and not get out and about if they prefer that. I'm all for personal responsibility and freedom to decide for yourself. There's no right or wrong approach really is what I'm saying, people are different and that's fine.

My mate is the same, his weight has ballooned and he doesn’t look well as he’s so pasty looking.

Supermarkets- too risky, all food delivered.

Takeaway- too risky ( the delivery driver and packaging )

Local parks - too risky ( you may bump into someone - his words )

It’s just madness and the irony is that his lad goes to school and back on a school bus packed with kids from everywhere. Then there’s school itself. So if he’s gonna catch it, there’s a good chance it’ll be off his son !!!

Oh yeah, sorry I didn't mean to come across like that. As long as people are comfortable, fine. Just don't shout and scream at others. Obviously it's different if the others are being blatantly irresponsible, but it's the same people shouting and screaming now about stuff as it was telling people they were evil for going on a run back in April.

Sorry to hear about the gym, mate. I haven't been back at all this year. I just didn't see the point as the gym I like to go to is small, so not the best for social distancing and the rules they had in place just made it a hassle. I'm missing being able to swim and go in the sauna/steam room, as it really helps, but it is what it is.

There's been 'careful' and then there's just continously not enjoying things you should be able to enjoy in life, though.

Look, we've had it a lot easier than other generations, I get it, but it doesn't mean that once people who need it are vaccinated (in general, obviously) people should still be afraid to get back to normal.

'Normal' will be different anyway. It's ingrained now, and I can't see a return to anything like there was before in terms of the general attitude of people - social distancing will still be a thing just because people's minds are set like that now.

But if you're fit and healthy (generally speaking) and not in a vulnerable age group, then there's no point living in fear of this thing once the people who need the vaccine have it.

The point is to protect others. You're much more likely to catch a serious bout of STREP and die from that than you are COVID, but people don't live in fear of that.

If you lived in fear, you'd never leave the house. Which is what some people want.

Yeah I mean I won't just stay at home the whole time but I'll still be restricting certain things I enjoy until I've been vaccinated. I'd rather do that than risk getting long covid TBH.

Yeah I don't understand the mentality of people who get really angry at the thought of others doing things they'd never want to do. It's a weird time but eventually we've got to stop reverting back to the close everything approach. A lot of those who shout for things to close don't actually go to them and that's what I struggle to understand. The cleaning in the gym is very good and you will be told to go and clean if you don't (or forget as I have done a couple of times!). I feel very comfortable when I'm there and I know others do too, so it's frustrating. Hopefully only going to be for the 2 or 3 weeks they say, but who knows.

But, I’d guess that you’re seeing the same media as they are, but aren’t reacting in the same way.

A recurring theme of the last 9 months, has been that everyone thinks that they have precisely the most appropriate response to the pandemic, whereas everyone around them is either over or under-reacting.

It’s like the driving thing, where anyone driving faster than you is a maniac, and anyone driving slower is an idiot.

I think some people with underlying social anxieties have kinda used the virus as an excuse to not engage with people.
Weight gain is also a huge issue I think. Had a google meet with all my colleagues the other day and everyone has put on weight. Not me though. I’m still in peak condition.

For this reason we leave all our food in the garage for 48 hrs so the coronas drop on to the floor before we eat anything..
