If you have a population of 67 million people and you've secured 45 million vaccines, and you're reliant on AstraZeneca to come through with 100 million vaccines to make it work with 100 million vaccines, THAT is putting all your eggs in one basket.

Govt have deals with at least 5 vax's mate. Was a few posts about them the other day.

I think that there needs to be a certain number of confirmed positive cases amongst participants. Then they can unblind the trial and see how many infected had the vaccine and how many the placebo.

The suppression of cases in the summer slowed down the trial.

Other vaccine results have come from the US where cases have been higher.
The more substantial criticism is the disproprtionate number we rely on AstraZeneca for, regardless of the delay.

...and will be back of the queue on many of them, as they will be with Moderna. The EU are procuring 160 million shots of the Moderna vaccine and the UK opted out of that.

These people aren't very clever. We know that. the last 9 months underline it in a deadly fashion.

Well lets see how it all works out before leaping to conclusions. The Moderna one has to be stored and transported at minus 60 degrees, apparently another one can be kept in a fridge.

My experience of the UK being able to procure/produce, and distribute drugs and vaccines is that we are actually pretty good at it.

I’d put good money on the fact that privately you will be able to purchase a vaccine if you’ve got the dosh.

Its the Pfizer vaccines that need low temperatures and a lot of specialised refridgeration. Moderna can be stored in ordinary fridges.

It’s might be 25mill vaccines, I think the UK might have bought doses as opposed to single vaccines, if so you can divide the Pfizer/Biotech by 2 as the vaccine requires two doses! Im not sure on the exact detail of the deal though if I’m honest.

I still dont believe this lot will get it right. Experience of their handing of this virus so far should make everyone sceptical or suspicious of them.

I don’t blame you either, I think they have been shockingly poor right up to now, the circuit breaker lockdown is far to short at 4 weeks.

All that said they could luck out on the Oxford vaccine if it can back up the 95% efficacy as rumoured, it’s being produced in the UK so distribution and logistics will be hard to get wrong, given that advantage. Plus it doesn’t need to be cold stored and single dose.

Personally if I had a choice of the three, I think I’d go for an RNA initially and I wouldn’t be in anyway anti vaccine.

The RNAs will go for assessment to the FDA and EU in the first week of Dec, we will have a decision on approval in days (usually takes months).

Depending on when the Oxford results and data is released I’d say it will be the start of 2021 when they go for approval.

Oh, look.

I'd argue if you get a vaccine you should then be able to not have to stay locked in your house like a leper

Not sure if there would be anywhere to go like given the restrictions but there you go.

Otherwise it would be laughable to keep people under a heavy restriction such as visiting people if they are vaccinated and therefore safe.
