Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Personally I’m not worried about catching it, wife had it last month but she was lucky and only had minor symptoms but still suffering with fatigue.

I’m only concerned about passing on.

Why do you keep posting stats from years gone by?? I mean what does 2016 have to do with COVID???

You’re a numbnuts as you said it was a farce with your previous post.

The NHS before this was already stretched, they don’t want to neglect people with other conditions but they are struggling to cope with the raising cases in COVID which has a knock on effect on other treatments.

It’s a few minutes past 12 when it comes to COVID as we have no idea on the long term damage it has done.

But in your head it’s a farce, I would dare you to say that to someone in the NHS who is dealing with the current crisis.

You are back tracking to issues I raised now namely the knock on effect for treatment of others due to recourses taken up by COVID. Tens of thousands of surgeries are cancelled, cancer patients are dying and no one can book appointments for anything.

Facts from 2016 matter as they show global health killers - per big scary numbers with stats to back the figures up, COVID wont be anywhere near the top of this leader board. Most of the people are old and/or have underlying symptom's or obese or whatever they may as well have died if they had a bad dose of the flu truth be told yet the whole world is at a stand still over this now. Its harsh but that's the reality

If everyone had some common sense and had good hygiene practice we would not be in this mess in the first place.

The track and trace farce is £12Billion farce also, if anyone watched C4 the other night. What does anyone expect when Borris J is running the land

They had to stop the testing trial for a few weeks in Sep due to a safety concern.

There results will be released very shortly i believe.
Near Christmas they'll have their conclusions ready. I'm not sure how far along they are on phase 3 testing.

Also, IIRC one (or both) of the Moderna and Pfizer processes had to pause their testing.

Your point seems to be that because Covid doesn't kill as much as, say, heart disease or World War II, that we should carry on as normal.

Covid is a contagious disease fella, spread easily by human interaction. We can't curb the amount of people who die from heart disease with lockdowns and social distancing. But lockdown and social distancing do reduce the amount of people who contract and die from Covid. Hope this helps

I think it’s just a different kind of vaccine. It works in a different way. I don’t think you can say they are dragging their feet. We’ve only had two announcements so far. There are loads of programs.
I'm sure it'll be as effective as the others when they produce a vaccine. My concern is that the incompetent bunch of gets in government will have disporortionately left us reliant on AstraZeneca and itll be last into the field of play. No doubt a lot of these murdering scum have shares in them.

The government have not put all the eggs in one basket, but they have got a deal with AZ/Oxford that gets 100million doses far cheaper than the early declare manufacturers....this is probably one of their few successes in this pandemic....

Why are this lot lagging behind others? They seem way behind, and their update today has been provoked by the success of other vaccines.

I get the nagging feeling that this government have put near all our eggs in this AstraZeneca basket and we'll pay for it.

Right from the off this government have made error after catastrophic error. So I have no great confidence in them delivering a vaccine in the numbers we need them in from this 'home' source.
I think that there needs to be a certain number of confirmed positive cases amongst participants. Then they can unblind the trial and see how many infected had the vaccine and how many the placebo.

The suppression of cases in the summer slowed down the trial.

Other vaccine results have come from the US where cases have been higher.

If you have a population of 67 million people and you've secured 45 million vaccines, and you're reliant on AstraZeneca to come through with 100 million vaccines to make it work with 100 million vaccines, THAT is putting all your eggs in one basket.

Most of the people who die from heart conditions are old and obese. On the basis of what you’re saying about COVID should we ignore them figures as well.
