Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

You need your head feeling if you believe this lot have secured potentially 350 million doses of vaccine. That's their spin. They couldn't even anticipate Moderna being into the field quickly and they scrambled around for just 5 million doses. The striking of real deals rather than 'access to' by this lot will mirror the way theylve beat their chests over doing trade deals outside the EU (maybe you missed the outcome of those promises: they fell through by and large).

And that brings me on to the EU: their Inclusive Vaccines Alliance have secured hundreds of millions each from Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZenica, Sanofi/GSK, Johnson & Johnson, CureVac. Two billion in all. THAT's what not putting all your eggs in one basket looks like.

I largely agree with you.
But I do know there's a building in Lancashire with nigh on 1m vaccine jabs ready and waiting.

Do as I say, not as I do...Same guy tells people not to travel for thanksgiving and to put masks on between bites. This might be old news but I just came across it. Annoyed how people, especially our “leaders,” continue to preach but then decide they only have to follow their own rules when they feel like it.

VERY interesting theory being postulated to explain the huge differences in Covid-19 infection and death rates between S/E Asian countries (SKorea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore etc) and harder hit Western countries...

It's nothing to do with effectiveness of lockdown, track & trace and other differences in local response, but because there is already a large t-cell herd immunity built up in the Asian countries that were hit by the 2003 SARS virus.

Sounds completely plausible, no?

It might be from immunity from something similar but quite low numbers got SARS in 2003 I think?

Politicians across the globe believe they are above the rules. They don't think the rules apply to them and they then often criticise the public for not following their rules.

But the sars wasn't so very infectious was it.
On the other hand those who did get it had a very high chance of dying.

Today's crap news story. Fella has been bitten by a cobra and is blind / paralysed. Has had dengue fever, malaria in the past also. Yet the news bother to mention covid-19 like that is equal to a cobra bite and malaria!?

Thats when you know the media are going ott on the reporting of covid-19. The metro even have the title

British dad fighting Covid blinded and paralysed after being bitten by a cobra

Not being funny but covid is the last of his worries right now and I'm sure the other illnesses make covid pale in comparison.

Where in the report from Sky that you linked do they do that ?

Seems to me you’re just creating a narrative that isn’t there.

It's the literal metro headline.

Although if you read the sky one

Mr Jones's son Seb said his father had already experienced malaria, dengue fever and COVID-19.

The telegraph headline

British man with coronavirus suffering paralysis and blindness after being bitten by cobra in India

The evening standard

British father bitten by deadly snake while battling coronavirus in India...after contracting malaria and dengue fever

ITV

British man blinded in India with snakebite and Covid

So what narrative is this? Everyone is throwing in covid into the story despite it being nowhere in comparison to a bloody snake bite leaving him blind and paralysed.

The ITV one is daft and likely a misinterpretation of the story by the writer.

Other than that I really don’t see your point. Of course they’re going to mention Covid, it would be weird if they didn’t seeing as it’s currently a pandemic.

None of them with the exception of the ITV headline are saying that Covid is as bad or even close to the snake bite. If it wasn’t for the snake bite they’d never have published the story.

Do you think the media should be balanced like your boy Anomoly.

Is that what you think should happen?

Mate it is wierd that they mention covid. He is lying in a hospital bed with blindness and paralysis. Covid contributes nothing to the story and depending on the different versions , he may not even have it currently.

It's adds nothing to the story, doesn't change it in any way or contribute to how he got to being bitten.

So why bother mentioning it? Other than to get more clicks during a pandemic.
