People on here will know about the Thalidomide scandal were the vaccination was given to pregnant women and we all know what happened next. Any side effects may not appear for a few years and if there is side effects and they are severe the government could be open to claims in the millions, would people be willing to sign a waver with regards to claims against the government if you do suffer sever side effects.

Good point, and that whole business was absolutely terrible. Believe it or not, thalidomide is still used a drug today though as a treatment for cancer, and is a small molecule not a vaccine. Safety testing of drugs/vaccines and the mechanisms behind side effects are much better understood today, though the point raised is well taken...

I get where you are coming from, but that wasnt a vax. It was a pill to cure morning sickness.

The medical science behind a vax is different than that for a "cure". Its why we dont have a cure for cancer, just better treatments, and we dont have a cure for flu, just a vax.
 
Some of this might be due to behavioral factors (those who would wear a mask as also likely to have followed other best practices like hand sanitation, distancing etc) but 70% is a beefy reduction in risk.


  • A retrospective case-control study from Thailand documented that, among more than 1,000 persons interviewed as part of contact tracing investigations, those who reported having always worn a mask during high-risk exposures experienced a greater than 70% reduced risk of acquiring infection compared with persons who did not wear masks under these circumstances.34
  • A study of an outbreak aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, an environment notable for congregate living quarters and close working environments, found that use of face coverings on-board was associated with a 70% reduced risk.35

Possible side effects following C19 infection also may not appear for several years.
We'll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, vaccinate.
We do not know.

Can anyone explain to me how it seems like everyone in the world predicted another wave during this exact timeframe, and yet no one seemed to do a darn thing to prepare for it or even better, prevent it...

It’s like seeing a car out of control come skidding down the road and just standing in the way thinking, “Eh maybe it’ll miss me...”
