Isn't there a similar case for false positives too?

Regardless, there's definitely going to be viruses going round at this time of year. Happens all the time. It's just the confusion that's going to bring.

Yea, but the overwhelming evidence is that false positives are less common than false negatives, so much fewer people are affected.

Also, in terms of public health, if someone isolates who doesn't really need to, then there's close to zero negative effect, though plainly there's potentially an economic effect, especially to individuals who can't work from home.

I think that's the point of gifs tbf. For when you can't be arsed writing out replies with graphs and stuff in.

Anyways, I’m feeling pretty ropey, got a banging headache, fatigued and no appetite. I doubt I have Covid but may try and get a test just to be safe. The nearest test centre to me is a 2 hour round journey. Not sure how long the turn around is by post or how it works or whether there’s other options apart from paying. Any suggestions?

How you feeling today mate?

Getting a negative result doesn't mean people havn't got COVID.

False negatives are thought to be in the order of 20% for people infected* so in an ideal world, anyone who was feeling rough enough to get a test would try and isolate for about a week even if the test came back negative - I know that's pretty much what you did by the way, but a negative result test result isn't anywhere near as definitive as what many people think.

*For the avoidance of doubt. This doesn't mean that 20% of all negative results are wrong, it means 20% of infected people will likely get a negative result.
If that was true about the 20% false negative.

Then it's very difficult to even manage a virus that may not even show up in a test.

Bit rough still. I ordered a test by post. I doubt I have Covid but I live in a rural, fairly elderly area so don’t want to become known as ‘The Super Spreader’ ... well not again anyways.

Good call Jimmy. There's spreading the Jimmy seed which your appreciated for but you don't want to be known as Corona Jimbo and flaunting your germs around like the village bike.

Keep us all posted once the test arrives and you get the result. Fingers crossed mate you'll just be feeling run down and that's what it'll be

As long as we beat MK Dons Man United this weekend I’ll be happy.

Yeah, economic and health wise too. People aren't allowed out to exercise in that case so if they don't have a garden it's pretty crap, unless they're lucky enough to have a treadmill or some such. Though I agree that in terms of adding to the COVID problem, there's obviously no negative impact of someone staying at home even if they don't need to.
