Likely a lot of Londoners came into contact with the virus before / during the spring and will probably have antibodies currently which also makes it less easier for the virus to spread around the population (similar story to places like NYC if I recall correctly).
If the Govt had any sense it would try shield the most vulnerable and let as many of the young and healthy catch it now otherwise this is never going to go away.
Its literally all we'll be doing with a vaccine anyway as they have already the majority wont be getting it.

The pubs with food thing was here in NI for weeks beforethe drink only bars reopened. You had a plate of chips and could stay as long as you like.

I mean thats it really. I fully appreciate that many folk have little choice but to be in a higher risk occupation, in terms of coming into contact with folk.
But reading these last few pages, its apparent that many are looking to circumvent the new rules. Why? It might kill you, or your Dad, or me.

You're bang on - kopite Rotherham and chippy tits have let us down massively here.
Areas with higher rates like Nottinghamshire are in tier two because they're either Tory areas, or their leaders said stick it to bongo and his idiots.
It just doesn't make any sense at all - there's no evidence that the sectors they are shutting are causing the problem, and I am certain that house parties will kick off in earnest now - shambles! In fact, the pubs I have been in since the measures have been in place have all been well managed from a covid perspective, and felt safer and better organised, than when I have to go and pick the kids up from school FFS!
If I was running a boozer, I would be offering a "Substantial" meal asap - but what constitutes substantial?! When I'm in the middle of a session, a packet of scampi fries or dry roasted nuts are more than substantial imho!

Well they say Merseyside locked down due to infection rates but, like you say, similar rated places haven't been. No one has challenged what the reason is for that though.

Boris literally said it in Parliament, that other regions would not come to an agreement in the negotiations, the only reason I can see them not agreeing is because they don't think it's worth the financial cost for such a little gain vs the virus, our region however.... quickly bend over backwards for Boris
