Of course. There has been no substantial lockdown here today. Infection rates will soar and soar until the murdering gets put a full lockdown in place...and they know that.

They are, but you can't mix Covid and non Covid in them, they are solely for Covid when the local hospitals reach capacity of Covid patients

No, they can be consulted on stuff, but emergency powers allow the government to pass things like a lockdown through unilaterally.

There's no point in them doing projections. It's nigh on impossible to do accurately, so I don't see the point of it.

Like what was the point of showing a graph projecting 50k by 13 October, if they thought it was never going to happen.

Ultimately it is up to politicians to make decisions, not scientists. The government's credibility is extremely low. I don't have any faith in them.

I agree with the last paragraph for sure. But they do projections to inform decision making, and to convince the public that there’s a rationale behind the restrictions etc.

But I think the communication has been so bad, which is why there’s now a sense that the scientists said “there will be 50,000 cases”, when that wasn’t what they said, which demonstrates that the information they put out there doesn’t land properly.
