It's quite simple really. I'd have been a far bigger risk had I gone to the local Whetherspoons last weekend instead of Lisbon.

But the gov are asking people coming back from foreign countries (on the list) to self-isolate.

If you can't be arsed self-isolating don't go on holiday.

Thing is though, we weren’t ‘told to expect’ 50,000 cases. In that press conference they said “If the doubling continues at the current rate we’d get 50,000 cases per day” at this point. Hence more areas then going into local lockdowns to slow the doubling rate. That’s not scare stories or a prediction or anything like that, it’s just maths.

As we’re now getting 15-17k cases per day, it would seem the doubling rate has been slowed to an extent, but unless we see the growth trend suddenly reverse, we’ll be at the 50,000 per day in 2-3 weeks.

There's no point in them doing projections. It's nigh on impossible to do accurately, so I don't see the point of it.

Like what was the point of showing a graph projecting 50k by 13 October, if they thought it was never going to happen.

Ultimately it is up to politicians to make decisions, not scientists. The government's credibility is extremely low. I don't have any faith in them.

"Pubs, bars, gyms and leisure centres, betting shops, casinos and adult gaming centres will all close. "

Ah fairs, I just took it from the soundbite here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-54505193

Edit: I didn't read down enough - gyms are indeed shutting:

On the tier 3 plans for Merseyside

I can report that we have been able to reach agreement with leaders in Merseyside. Local authorities in the Liverpool city region will move into the “very high” alert level from Wednesday.
In addition to the baseline I have outlined, that is as well as pubs and bars, in Merseyside gyms and leisure centres, betting shops, adult gaming centres and casinos will also close.

Ah fudge this, I've kept myself in isolation since I returned from Lisbon last Monday. I CBA anymore and will be going out in a limited and specific way.
I was there 3 weeks ago. I get what you’re saying. Probably more risk of infection if you got the train to London and back. Doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Had 3 seats to myself on the flight. Was great. I was surprised with the lack of details required at both border crossings like. Quickest I’ve ever got through customs.

Some managers I agree are able to take long lunches , the staff on the shop floor certainly don't .

In some large city teaching hospitals , they work a shift without any lunch break at all and I speak from personal experience and it's not about time management , it's about not leaving patients and staff in a vulnerable on an already unsafe understaffed area .
The British tradition of lions lead by donkeys has never been upheld in any finer way.

Travel restrictions?
Think bozo has "advised" that folk in infected areas avoid travelling to those which aren't but it's not illegal
However the Welsh Assembly are unhappy with this advice and are looking at trying to ban people from high infected areas.
I was due to go to Anglesey on Friday for a short break but can see myself re arranging it or asking for a refund.
