And this point of view unfortunately remains.

I know Joe's a good Evertonian, he may even be on here. I'm just using this tweet as an example.

It's such a daft statement. The economy and people's lives are intrinsically linked. It's not right wing to think that.

There has to be a way forward without another full lockdown. Because it will do tons of damage going forward that industries (not just the hospitality trade) will never recover from, not least after the first one.

I wonder what trade off between deaths and the economy Joe would find acceptable then?

Despite what @davek might think he would've just 'ked it up a different way
UK Politicans, couldn't run a raffle.
Shutting down back in March 2 weeks to 10 days earlier would have saved about 35,000 lives.

If you think a Labour Government under Corbyn would have waited 2 weeks after other nations in Europe to shut down the economy you're not thinking it through.

Put that graph up and let's all have a look.
Scientists normally know how to interpret graphs.
Depends what sort of scientists you're talking about -- why should medical professionals know all the statistical techniques that make sense of data?
It seems to me that the medical guys are by and large, as one would expect, simply driven by saving lives. Fair enough. But if you want to know exactly what the data are saying and so make the appropriate policy decisions based on verified evidence then you should be looking for the analysis of professional statisticians and no one else. I'm appalled that the media still headlines rising new cases (though this should be 'rising detected new cases' of course) when that was inevitable once testing capacity was multiplied. I suspect too that the figures have partly increased because of more testing being targetted in areas where an infection rate problem had arisen.
I await the BBC broadcasting a full and proper debate on what the data are actually telling us. I suspect I'll be waiting a long time and that the statistical truth will only come out when an inevitable investigation report appears in 3 or 4 years time!

"I dont see why we should have to restrict our lives or quarantine when we're told too. It's just one of those things that loads have to die. Why should we be made to restrict our lifestyle when we're not going to die - and restricting us will only save a few measly thousands of lives anyway? It's not fair. It's just not fair"

Nonsense. There's only 41,700 lives so far lost -- and in reality somewhat fewer than that (witness for example the finding by Oxford that around one-third of Covid-classified deaths over July and August alone were not in any way related to the virus).
And as for acting like sheep and promptly following other nations, themselves all acting principally on hunches and unverified medical forecasts, I'd have thought such hasty action has been proved questionable by the Sweden experience.

My favourite line is "Im young and healthy, it wont bother me".

Excess deaths well over 60,000. Dont be quoting figures that have ben massaged down by a government desperate to cover it's criminal acts.

Thatcher's children. Devil take the hindmost.

The annoying thing is that they couldn't give a flying one about anyone else, but they present their argument in the guise of "well the government cant afford to keep spending billions and it's a trade off between economy and health".

UK Govts mate, Yes Prime Minister was watered down semi truthful tv... nobody can say what they will or would've done only what they might have done, or even what they should've done.

You cant be seriously suggesting that Johnson's mishandling of the crisis in March when he refused to upset big business by closing the economy down would have been replicated by a LP in power under Corbyn who were critical of his delays?

A week would have saved thosuands of lives; two weeks or 10 days tens of thousands of lives saved. If we'd have seen action here the same time Ireland acted, for example, something like 25,000-30,000 of our fellow citizens would still be here.

Please dont offer any support via the backdoor for murders like Johnson, Gove, Hancock etc etc.
