Hold on: 'shattered'? How would people's lives be 'shattered'? The 5th largest economy in the world couldn't match the furloughing and welfare programmes of other nations not in the same league as 'the 5th largest economy in the world' to see the country's population through this?Using your own numbers, you believe that the overwhelming majority of the country (50 million + people) should have their lives potentially shattered in order to help a much smaller amount of people? Lockdown or no lockdown these people would be shielding anyway
Why in your world is there never any compromise? Never any pragmatism? In your world people are either a lockdown enthusiast or a murderer. It’s madness. The glee with which you talk about an impending lockdown and the glib way you dismiss legitimate concerns people have about their income, future, mental health etc. And there’s plenty more issues related to lockdown.
Here’s an interview with someone from the CDC; https://www.buckinstitute.org/covid-webinar-series-transcript-robert-redfield-md/
Here’s an extract:
But even worse than that, if you go to Africa where our polio eradication program and our measles vaccine programs have really come to a halt because of COVID concerns and field workers are not out there. I now have 120 million children in Sub Saharan Africa that haven’t received the measles vaccine. And they’re very at risk to die from measles. And they’re very limited risk dying from COVID.
Here’s another;
But there has been another cost that we’ve seen, particularly in high schools. We’re seeing, sadly, far greater suicides now than we are deaths from COVID. We’re seeing far greater deaths from drug overdose that are above excess that we had as background than we are seeing the deaths from COVID.
In the interest of fairness, this MD advocates the closing of bars. He discusses a lot about the way to continue to fight Covid. But it’s BALANCED. He actually acknowledges that perhaps in some cases the cure can be worse than the disease. And you know, he’s a doctor, not some football fan on a forum as you like to label others...
You were found out here by more than me.
You claimed NHS staff were advising those asymptomatic for covid19 to not get tested. An utterly ridiculous and indeed scurrilous piece of nonsense. Then you rowed back on it.
Another one you wont own, just like your sneering at those cautioning against a second wave.
Have been going to two different gyms since I've been back and both gave been really well managed and seem to be making a huge effort to be as controlled an environment as they can. Everyone in there apart from a couple of the usual roid head chodes have been watching their space and sanitising before and after use. There was an article a few months back that suggested that there had been absolutely no evidence of the spread of COVID at a gym anywhere in Europe. Truly one of those bizarre things that got shut for no good reason.
Well let me answer that by offering you a local example to me (oh, and by the way. I underline....unlike YOU...that this is anecdotal and not a wider projection) which is behind my 'coining it' in statement.Still waiting for you to prove the restaurants were 'coining it in' over the summer.
I'll wait...

I've spoken regulalry to a restauranteur in this crisis (outdoors I hasten to add) and in reply to my question about "how's it going" his reply was "never done more business". And locally to where we are I think that will be mirrored. They've been regulalry attended since the reopening and the help with VAT and the August 'Eat Out' scheme was a boost they didn't need...they were already at bursting point each night.
....and yes, he does know about my view on his sector re-opening.
I'll bet there's a restaurant owner on here who will confirm the trend, at least locally.

I dont believe you. And I say that with a heavy heart.
We have supported our local Indian during this, they stayed open for takeaways till they were allowed tables, and yeah, the Eat Out thing was a huge win for them, but they were miles down in takings.
"Never done more business" during a 6 month pandemic? Ok mate.
It seems like you've found the one restaurant owner in the country who is thriving. The majority are not.Well let me answer that by offering you a local example to me (oh, and by the way. You're basically calling me a liar.
I'm giving you my word that was the conversation....
In that case, I think your mate was lying to you. Or being extremely sarcastic. Or he opened his place on 1st March.
Dublin back on lockdown for 3 weeks from midnight tonight
