The house policy I think is primarily designed to stop house parties with lots of people, which combines the worst case scenario of lots of drunk people not socially distancing and puts them in a none regulated environment.

It also stops big family gatherings where that might not be happening.

Pubs/Restaurants etc. are regulated and liable. That, along with protecting the economy also indirectly helping save lives, is why they can remain open.
See I understand the generalisation mate , the blanket ban rather than the individual ones.

But for it to be effective it has to be all or none. That's the point I'm trying to get at, all well and good banning people from visiting each other in case they have a house party but if I can walk through hundreds of maskless, non social distanced people in town on Saturday if I need to go down there shopping then the lockdown, it achieves nothing.

Sweden isn't a massive transport hub as far as I know and I would also guess they have a lot less people per square mile too. There isn't a one size fits all solution, what is ok for one country/region might not work for another.
They also had a pretty sizable outbreak during the summer so people are probably being a tad more sensible atm.

You’re happy for the hospitality sector to be completely destroyed, creating massive job loses, thus having a negative impact on the economy.

As I said, we can protect lives and people’s jobs. You seem unwilling to entertain this idea.
No. I've been through this before. I am for a political solution to that: the Germans and French are stepping in to guarantee furlough until the end of 2021...so THAT is what I am advocating....for the umpteenth time!

PROTECT THE 2.5M SHIELDING.

Classic.

Ignoring the fact that you were wrong and pulled up on it, and then start rabbiting on about focus and shielding which has nothing to do with the subject at hand, which is you not being arsed about millions being unemployed.
You were found out here by more than me.

You claimed NHS staff were advising those asymptomatic for covid19 to not get tested. An utterly ridiculous and indeed scurrilous piece of nonsense. Then you rowed back on it.

Another one you wont own, just like your sneering at those cautioning against a second wave.

Yet as we’re seeing right across Europe, the upturn in infections is not the sole preserve of the U.K. Banana Republic PLC.

Are we to blame for the problems in Spain, France,Czech et al ?

Maybe just maybe it’s the human desire to be with other people that’s largely to blame.

People can be with other people outdoors. They dont have to be cheek by jowl with friends and near strangers indoors for hours on end. It is a pandemic like, not exactly conducive for sitting side by side for ages getting pissed and eating some 'kin tat from a pathetic restaurant who rip off "foodies' for a living.

As for international comparisons: you must be 'kin nuts if you dont think that these murdering scum who run this country wont have us at or near the top of an international table for deaths at the end of this winter - just like they did for the spring when they wouldn't lockdown in time to prevent the worst of it. They've sown the seeds of the next catastrophe by being utterly negligent with their testing programme.
