Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Interestingly my experience of masks is that compliance is getting better every week. It started off with hardly anyone complying now nearly everyone is.

Same by me, it’s the exception now.

We’ve got to wear masks when dropping off / picking up my youngest lad up at school now.

At my eldest lads school parents aren’t allowed on school premises without an appointment.

Find that hard to believe myself tbh.

Most people in shops and on public transport are wearing masks. You’re as bad as davek in this thread.

Social distancing is out the window but what do you expect in a city centre. Highly doubt you kept two metres away from everyone for the duration yourself.

Did you have to go into liverpool three times? Seems a bit hypocritical for you to travel into liverpool on three separate occasions and judge people for breaking the rules.

This is the point I was making the other day. Most of us in some way or another have become complacent and broke rules, so casting judgement on others isn’t the best look.
In my experience nobody youngish is doing anything the govt say, people in here think am just bating but thats honestly how i see it

Why would I bother lying about it? And I never went into the city centre; I went down Lark Lane and Sefton Park where you can most certaintly keep social distancing a thing.

Because you like to come into this thread preaching sanctimony.

You kept to the rules 100% whilst everyone else around you broke them.

Not sure where you can social distance at lark lane considering it’s just a street full of bars and restaurants with not much room to move on the street, but I’m sure you found a way.

That’s thing. You went out to enjoy yourself when you didn’t need to but you’re more than happy to cast judgement on everyone else around you doing the same thing.

Wonder what the local lockdown rules will be

no household mingling
No gyms
Curfew on pubs?

something like that am expecting
'Campus bubbles'
Shut down of night time economy
Restrictions on care home visits
No household mixing
Only takeaway and restrictions on opening times for restaurants/eating establishments
National ask to restrict use of gyms and leisure activities

Lark Lane has been bad since all the takeaway madness with the pubs.

It has a predominantly young trendy clientele, so I wouldn’t really say it’s a fair representation of the rest of the city tbh.

I've been on this site 6 years and somehow you're the first person I'll have to stick on ignore as you're so dumb it's actually affecting my Internet connection.

Congrats on what is quite an achievement.

To all the active people in here if you had to guess

are pubs/gyms going to shut again soon/this winter?

is there going to be a “lockdown”

will they extend Furlough?

The government in hindsight went to generous with furlough, if they had paid 60% and capped it to say £2000 then they could have stretched it out over a longer period*. It's looking like businesses will not be anywhere near to back up and running this year, throw in winter and flu season and the natural spike in NHS use and things could be shaky for another 6 months.

The balancing act between businesses closing and at the other end doctors and nurses walking out in the event of another huge spike is hugely difficult now. Another unpopular thought but they should have banned all International travel after the first lockdown. If everyone stayed put we would have had a far better chance of not reintroducing it back.

*might have made people think twice before acting like dicks now, they probably think the government will continue to pay up if another full lockdown is called not realising there won't be any businesses left to try and keep staff employed.

However Sefton and Croxteth Hall were absolutely rammed all weekend long when I've been so a larger representation.

I never suggested everyone in Liverpool is ignoring the virus I merely said from what I've seen.

I can do a door-to-door survey next time though just so everyone on here is happy with my data.

Go for it fella.

Just calling out what I see to be rank hypocrisy.

The fact you have no retort other than to lash me on ignore tells me all I need to know.

Yeah it’s dreadful but I think all bars and pubs are now. Social distancing has gone out the window.

It’s why I don’t get why somebody would go down there and show surprise at people not following the rules.

If I cared that much I wouldn’t go to any drinking establishment.

Like I have said before.

20 people dying of a virus is nothing in the bigger picture. As much as you want to run the idea of doom and gloom, OMG 20 people died a day of covid-19.

1000 people die every day on average.

We are currently 15% down right now on our 5 year average , so less people in the country are dying on average (I know the average has been mentioned in here before).

Suggests to me that if, given less people are going out and wearing masks and social distancing and all that. There is something else that isn't killing people as much as it did on average over the past 5 years , hence the lower numbers , to the tune of anywhere up to 150 a day.

But we aren't making a major fuss over that ?

You are looking at the figures and dismissing 20 deaths as nothing.

And you know what, in the grand scale of things, it is nothing, but did you see what happened in The Spring when it was allowed to run free?

I just checked, we peaked at 1149 deaths in 1 day.

Yes, masks, social distancing will hopefully stop us reaching these numbers, yes, the NHS is able to treat it better. But we have a useless testing system, that is currently on its arse. But we had the peak in The Spring, if things carry on as they are, we could have a new peak in The Winter.

Im considered doom and gloom and negative and I am, this thing terrifies me, its a disease we know very little about and its killing people, daily.

You say 1000 people die every day, well guess what, most of those same 1000 people are still dying, but now even more people are dying from this.

As you say, we don't make a major fuss over other things, but the Goverment locked the whole country down, its never done that for anything else in my lifetime.

Its not about the numbers now, its about the numbers that will happen if we just keep dismissing this as just another thing to worry about.
