Quite. We have all said for weeks that local spikes are inevitable; its the steps taken then to minimise a spread. And as long as we ALL take the simple measures you say, we WILL beat this thing. Not any time soon, but one day.

They are not simple measures, and the younger the person the more difficult these measures are. It's a perfectly natural for people to group together, it's a very basic human need to do it, not even a conscience decision to do it, the younger we are the greater the urge.

Which is why I think the government have acted now, as they know that a lot of people will simply ignore any restrictions on numbers over Christmas regardless.

Yeah that is exactly what the country needs. I'm starting to think that these rules are actively encouraging it constantly to raise those stats just a little bit to justify the rules in the first place. If the infection rate had a jump after everyone making the most of the final days this weekend then it looks better to reduce the group numbers from then on, a kinda told you it was a good idea scenario.

My 95 year old grandma has tested positive. So far asymptomatic. Large outbreak in her nursing home for the last couple weeks, well over half the residents now, so not unexpected. They’ve not had anyone get seriously ill...will hope that continues.

The facility itself has done a great job from the beginning, but thanks to returning college students, the infection rate in her town has been one of the highest in the nation.
