I still think what people don't take into account with these figures were the ones from march and April.

2k across the country is seen as drastic yet for thousands of deaths to occur over 6 weeks effectively then that infected rate must have been incredible. We will never know that because they weren't testing people , being a world class run country and all that.

It just strikes me reading how it's being portrayed now that its extreme measures to minor information. Yet whilst we hear these extreme measures , they don't balance out with real life. You can't be in a group of 7 socially distanced wearing masks but you can be in a shop/work/train with more people?

That's where common sense should be. If my nan hadn't passed is understand I would have not seen her at all these past 6 months. That's common sense on my front because she would have been at risk. But acting like Liverpool for example is suddenly going to drop dead within s few weeks with positive tests?

Just extreme measures and scary statistics without any inclusion for adults using common sense.

You know what mate, you say its all pointless and I do agree to a degree.

When all this started of course masks weren't easily available.

Once more masks came around a few people wore them, after a while I saw less and less people wearing them.

Last time I went shopping about a week ago I saw I would say about 20% mask wearers, I popped into Tesco last night and out of everybody, bar staff, I saw 1 person not wearing a mask.

You call them scare tactics, well sadly stupid people need scare tactics and if fear makes people wear masks and take precautions, then bring on the fear.

I would substitute Fear for Responsible, but if both work, all good. Since the mask rule was bought in, I have seen pretty much 100% compliance in every shop I have been in. SD as well, and most use the hand cleaners at the supermarket.

You live in a vastly different place to me RayRay.

The sense of entitlement and selfishness around here is off the charts.

But the change I saw last night was vast, I doubt it lasts, but its taken fear for it to happen.

And you know what, its not even fear of death or the thought they could kill somebody, its the fear that their life will have to change.

Its not even for the right reasons.

God I hate people.

Like I have said many times, I have not a clue how Bristol (the city) is doing, other then 2 trips to get a phone, (but it seemed pretty good, many masks, SD), and that was 2 months ago.

Maybe I am lucky, and shop when the sensibles do. But the message is stark, easy to understand, and easy to do. Honestly cant get why folk are so stupid.

And to some extent I agree with that.

Especially at the beginning of this , I said it at the time that I saw the logic in the scare media for example to really hit home to people who thought it was an overreaction.

I see things like I say a common sense situation rather than one that requires extreme solutions. By all means we need to have measures in place for quite a while yet which is part and parcel of common sense. If that means masks for months still and social distancing then so be it, even precautionary. You know I don't necessarily support the idea of wearing a mask now but keeping it in place for a long period of time is what will make people feel safer to go out.

In regards to measures , there has to be cut off otherwise we are going to be worse off in the long run. The more you protect against one particular virus to such an extent will allow others to suddenly become more serious to people. Not the same extent but bouts of the flu and other coronaviruses will be able to hit us harder in the long run.

I also still think that things need to be looked at in perspective especially with figures as low as they are. If 20 people die of covid-19 a day then in comparison to other deaths each day, it's a positive. At some point we have to stop treating figures like this as bad news when there is higher numbers of preventable deaths in comparison.

But common sense needs to be used. People will always rebel , people will always act like everything is ok even if the sky was on fire. If someone wants to ignore all advice , denounce covid 19 and cry their free rights , is it truly a sad thing that they then get seriously ill?

No, but nobody cares if people like that get ill, if it was only people like that it wouldn't matter, but these morons get ill and then they pass it on people who have taken every precaution, cos no matter how careful you are, you can still catch it, you only to be a little slow, a little late once.

You say other preventable deaths are higher, things like what?

I'm gonna presume you mean things like smoking, I choose to smoke, I know its risks, but I'm only putting my own life at risk with my smoking, by not wearing a mask and ignoring that this thing is real, these people are putting EVERYBODIES life at risk.

Cos its not only the old and fat who die.

Anyway, we do agree with most points, we need to ship all the morons to 1 country, lets call it, AMERICA.

soz, soz, only kidding bros.

There was a piece I read earlier that put some context into this.

Firstly, way more testing, and more importantly, community testing. No stastically relevant hospital increases. Age profile night and day from the peak, and the case count at peak was mainly hospital based tests.

So take more care, dont be a bell, and SD. Gives us a fighting chance.
If you take Bolton as an example, it has roughly 300,000 population.

100 cases in 100,000 means 300 people in Bolton.

Proportionality is needed in some of the reporting. The key is adherence to hand washing, face masks and distancing.

Quite. We have all said for weeks that local spikes are inevitable; its the steps taken then to minimise a spread. And as long as we ALL take the simple measures you say, we WILL beat this thing. Not any time soon, but one day.

Notwithstanding the beards and nerds getting a vaccine. Which we cannot count on.

The tracking will be helpful as it should provides means to identify localised outbreaks more effectively.

The current working timeframe for Vaccination is January.
