Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Friends posting stories on my ig from nightclubs, at least 15-16 of them dancing and singing there, no mask and all being handsy, how come this is allowed and we can't go to a game of footy, outdoors and much easier to socially distance if tickets issued accordingly. Some stuff in this era just doesn't click for me and makes me uncomfortable trusting authorities

I dont get why the Goverment are so concerned about infection rates - surely if the death rate remains low then thats ultimately all that matters?

Its like monitoring how many get flu on a daily basis if very few actually die of it then why does it matter?

Im convinced the virus has mutated to a weaker strain- no other explaination for the drop in deaths worldwide. I just think Covid has become so political goverments have to be seen to be keeping infection rates as low as possible in order to not be heckled as "reckless" or down on the covid league table of nations.

All getting a bit tedious tbh - we can't live this way for years and you cant restrict people to groups of 6 whilst promoting going back to school, work etc.
It makes you wonder.
People, even previously 'sensible' people are starting to wonder at;
A) All the on going restrictions
B) All the obvious inconsistencies like you mention.

Here in Australia the 2nd spike is centred on Melbourne, mainly, but not exclusively, in lower income areas and most the deaths are sadly in age care homes with 6 times the deaths of the 1st event.
On the quiet I think many Govts. are hoping it does mutate to a milder form...but these things can re-mutate to a worse form too...and are, if not happy, then satisfied if Covid goes from Pandemic to Endemic, like The Flu.

State Borders are another bone of contention and have become a bit of a political football...surprise surprise.
The ruling Qld Labour party, especially the leader, with an Election in 2 or 3 months is polling well on 'Strong Borders for your safety'

The question is asked...mostly by NSW - when will border controls ease?
The cynical answer...and probably the correct answer is - After The Election
Some things never change.

Because infection rates drive death rates. It’s all about stopping transmission before it gets to the level of exponential growth we had in March / April, where the new cases number was doubling every 2 to 3 days.

With a doubling rate of 2 days, as it was in Spring, 1000 new cases today infects the entire UK population within a month.

Short, sharp lockdowns in areas of seemingly low numbers is the best way to stop transmission, before it hits an exponential growth curve, as if we end up with a 2 day doubling rate, we’ll be back in full on lockdown.

We can't keep going back and forth out of lockdown for the next year or two. If that's the only policy governments and advisors have, then we need people with fresh ideas.

Kill off all those over 65? Oh wait... already been suggested...its all their fault for voting Brexit anyway... :( :(

I don’t disagree with the bit in bold, But until a vaccine is available, controlling transmission, by some mechanism, is the only way to prevent ending up at exponential growth.

Edit: I just saw from my news feed that the track and trace app is being released later this month, and if effective, could prove to be an alternative mechanism to local lockdowns. If effective.

Just seen on the Beeb News at 1 that the West Midlands has an infection rate of 80 to 100,000 people, which equals 0.08%. Wales is 20 to 100,000, which equals 0.02%. Both are taking more stringent measures as a result.

Make of that what you will...

I dont get it tbh, worried aswell that these vaccines getting developed may also be rushed and who knows what long term effects they will have on people's health.

Somethings got to give
