Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I dont get why the Goverment are so concerned about infection rates - surely if the death rate remains low then thats ultimately all that matters?

Its like monitoring how many get flu on a daily basis if very few actually die of it then why does it matter?

Im convinced the virus has mutated to a weaker strain- no other explaination for the drop in deaths worldwide. I just think Covid has become so political goverments have to be seen to be keeping infection rates as low as possible in order to not be heckled as "reckless" or down on the covid league table of nations.

All getting a bit tedious tbh - we can't live this way for years and you cant restrict people to groups of 6 whilst promoting going back to school, work etc.

It's perhaps quite telling that the annual jamboree of the Tour de France is showing no signs of being stopped. It seems the autumn is going to be about learning to live with this, whereas spring was about preventing it from overwhelming us.
indeed..they also gave a green light for Roland Garros to be played with UP TO 5000 fans in the main court, in October. Czech tennis tournaments always had crowds

It will be interesting to see how it unfolds. In spring, Czech never had more than 500 cases per day. Yesterday it had nearly 1,400. Obviously as with many places, in spring they only tested those who were unwell, which isn't the case now, which is arguably why the most severe cases don't appear to be rising alongside the case numbers in general. Hopefully it stays that way.

You can only curtail people's liberties for so long before it becomes completely ineffective.

The localised lockdown rules here in and around Belfast are completely farcical. They announced no one can have anyone round to their home in the same press conference they announced the non-food bars were opening. So you can't go round to your granny's for a cuppa but can take her out for a pint? It's bonkers.

Oh, and on the "wait until we have a vaccine" thing

Got to get the crazy fuckers to actually take it first! (can we swear now btw? )
Swear filter? What swear filter? @Bruce Wayne is....

Just been told by an EU colleague that a device called C-Detect will be validated in several clinics in the UK and on construction sites. The device is attached to a wristband and checks every 10 minutes the wearer’s respiration rate, oxygen saturation, heart rate and body temperature. Exceeding normal limits in any of the above may indicate a Coronavirus infection. In such case, C-Detect prompts the wearer to take a test and therefore limit spreading.

Similar devices are being tested in the Benelux, Italy and Nordics.

Sounds expensive.

I can’t imagine it being on the wrist of a smack head from the likes of Birkenhead for long, before it’s exchanged for a bag of brown lol
