Mate of mines sisters kid has some Covid symptoms so needs a test. Went online to book one for the nearest testing centre type place. Nearest available one with tests was in Inverness. They live in Durham. Amazing that. 12 hour round trip. What a shambles this government is.

I would trust this cabinet to hit the ground if they jumped off Blackpool Tower. If the US is government by tweet our lot are government by ‘hoping for the best’

Did you actually see the comparison of the U.K. (In 4th place) and hitting similar numbers to the 3 above it, while out testing Germany, France, Spain, Italy etc by quite a long way.....
A bit of nuance on comparing the number of tests in differing countries.

I don't personally think it's right to dictate when someone else needs help or what they're doing is unhealthy. Leave that for them to tell you.

You can look out for friends but you shouldn't try impose your way of life on them.

I`ve just face timed him and he looks shocking.

I could only see his face, but I could see that he`s ballooned in weight and is that pale he looks ill.

I did try to talk to him about how he was doing, but he shut me down immediately.

I`m properly worried about him now.

Not good that mate would he flip if you nocked?

I didn’t expect it all from him.

We were out as normal the weekend before the lockdown and then he just announced that he wouldn’t be out anymore as it was “ too risky “.

He’s a computer boy, so can work from home virtually permanently.

I’ve tried everything to get him out, even suggesting a bevy outdoors at the local golf course by us :

“ can’t be sure the glasses are sterile “
“ can’t be sure of the staff “
“ can’t be sure the tables / chairs are safe “
“ can’t be sure the toilets are safe “
“ can’t be sure of the other customers”

You can see now why I’ve given up !
Apologies for barging in, but he sounds sensible. He's right to err on the side of caution. Especially where the hospitality sector is concerned. They're not going to be spot on and any standards they profess to have will inevitably slip. More than that, though, the other customers are a liability. It's a scally culture with almost zero care for other people.

Maybe it's not, but you can't impose your views on COVID onto him, let him be scared of it if he's not comfortable going outside. Just make sure you talk to these people daily, check in on them etc.

Lots of people in this thread, you included, seem to give off the impression people shouldn't be allowed to be scared of a pandemic just because you aren't.

You know what mate, I,ve got a son who’s we’ll in the at risk group and my missus works in a big hospital, so It’s not that I’m not aware of the risks and I don’t watch what I’m doing.

But at the same time I’m not going to hideaway and put my life on hold.

It’s just a matter of checks and balances and being sensible.

Tremendous.

You’ve managed to sound sympathetic and still get your usual digs in about the hospitality industry in at the same time lol

Of course it was going to rise. Schools and colleges back. Restaurants packed to the rafters when they offered 50% off.. a huge increase in testing.. it's no surprise.

Any rises in deaths?

France are having more new daily cases than the first wave they had. Yet no rise in deaths...

@peteblue is the arch Tory on this forum and displays a Considerably less dismissive and more inclusive attitude across society than the forums arch socialist , genuinely crazy times.

As regards @COYBL25’s mate, there is nothing wrong with being concerned or even frightened of frightening things . Allowing that fear to control your life and have an adverse effect on your physical and mental health is obviously not good and it seems natural that any friend would worry about those close to him . How you can help him or if he’ll allow that help is something as an outsider it’s really difficult to assess .
