Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I didn’t expect it all from him.

We were out as normal the weekend before the lockdown and then he just announced that he wouldn’t be out anymore as it was “ too risky “.

He’s a computer boy, so can work from home virtually permanently.

I’ve tried everything to get him out, even suggesting a bevy outdoors at the local golf course by us :

“ can’t be sure the glasses are sterile “
“ can’t be sure of the staff “
“ can’t be sure the tables / chairs are safe “
“ can’t be sure the toilets are safe “
“ can’t be sure of the other customers”

You can see now why I’ve given up !

Why would you keep trying? Just let him do his own thing.

I've got a cousin like that, he hasn't got kids and lives alone but he was already over dramatic about health issues, even though he's 37 and hasn't got any health issues, his brother asked him if he wanted to go to his to watch the boxing the other week and all's he got was 'are you 'kin mad, Corona ya know' lol

I know it's serious an all but you can't just become a hermit and shut out all your family, the media have damaged alot of people who already had anxiety and mental health issues, I mean, you only need to look at how hysterical Piers Morgan was and is, the tabloid media are absolutely loving this

You’re spot on, he pours over the local and national media everyday, looking for anything that reinforces his fears.

I don’t even think he’ll leave the house until a vaccine is out that has been proven to work.

Because he’s one of my best mates and I think there’s a very real possibility that he’ll develop serious mental health issues over this ( if he hasn’t got them already )

Well if so I'm assuming you've discussed this with him. There's probably smaller steps to take with him than inviting him to a pub where social distancing collapses after 2 pints.

I used that as an example.

He’s also jibbed 2 walking weekends both in the middle of nowhere.

Meeting up for an al fresco bevvy in the local massive park.

A trip to the cinema, when there was 8 people booked into the biggest screen.

He’s now terrified of going outside and of other people.

He genuinely thinks it’s end of days and however you dress it up isn’t normal for a healthy young man.

Maybe it's not, but you can't impose your views on COVID onto him, let him be scared of it if he's not comfortable going outside. Just make sure you talk to these people daily, check in on them etc.

Lots of people in this thread, you included, seem to give off the impression people shouldn't be allowed to be scared of a pandemic just because you aren't.

People who laugh at others for being scared of something that kills 000s a day, there's loads of them about.
