Your mad if your healthy and less than 70 to be house bound due to this virus

you must have serious health anxiety

I’ve all but given up with my mate who hasn’t left the house now for over 6 mths.

He’s not in any of the at risk groups at all and this latest stuff has just driven him even further into his bunker.

He hasn’t been in a shop, hasn’t had a takeaway and won’t let anyone into his house, inc kids to play with his son.

He’s given up his place on 2 lads weekends away and I’m now booking stuff for next year without him.

All because of the media and the way it’s portraying this.

I genuinely don’t think he’ll leave the house until there’s a vaccine.

Boris gets shot for not doing enough tests, then gets shot for setting a goal to do more. Meanwhile the U.K. is one the highest test performing countries in the world...

Yes, the government is damned if it does and damned if it doesn’t. It is also dealing with imperfect knowledge,a rapidly changing situation and conflicting objectives (public safety v the economic recovery). Some empathy for Boris (on this at least). As long as people believe it’s the just government’s problem to sort out, rather than take complete responsibility for their own actions as well, it will be like this until there is a vaccine.

He's probably wondering why it's taken you this long to get the hint

I've got a cousin like that, he hasn't got kids and lives alone but he was already over dramatic about health issues, even though he's 37 and hasn't got any health issues, his brother asked him if he wanted to go to his to watch the boxing the other week and all's he got was 'are you 'kin mad, Corona ya know' lol

I know it's serious an all but you can't just become a hermit and shut out all your family, the media have damaged alot of people who already had anxiety and mental health issues, I mean, you only need to look at how hysterical Piers Morgan was and is, the tabloid media are absolutely loving this

I didn’t expect it all from him.

We were out as normal the weekend before the lockdown and then he just announced that he wouldn’t be out anymore as it was “ too risky “.

He’s a computer boy, so can work from home virtually permanently.

I’ve tried everything to get him out, even suggesting a bevy outdoors at the local golf course by us :

“ can’t be sure the glasses are sterile “
“ can’t be sure of the staff “
“ can’t be sure the tables / chairs are safe “
“ can’t be sure the toilets are safe “
“ can’t be sure of the other customers”

You can see now why I’ve given up !

Ok. My "slight over reaction" was referring to you. Based on a seemingly random number (5000) of folk the French had allowed to attend stuff, you went "we must shut everything down", just a few weeks after telling us all it was a hoax and not to be cowed.

The 3rd March was my birthday, not that that makes any difference, and I had all ready been at home caring full time for Mrs R, whom the NHS/Social Services (after a full inspection) had allowed to be released into my care, rather than stay in a soon to be a Corona ward, for 2 weeks. Thats now 7 months.

So I took great offence that you said I was downplaying this thing.
Ah right, I see. Ok, I get it now. I apologise for stating you believed the French had jumped the gun on reducing gatherings to 5,000. My mistake.

That said, mine wasn't an over-reaction as it turned, as 2 weeks later everything was shut down.

As for my downplaying of it and subsequent u-turn: that was based on the previous largely no-show pandemics of the recent past. The actualisation of this one meant that such a position was ridiculous, which is why I changed it...and did so, I think, even before the end of February.
