Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

You're so thick it makes my brain hurt.

To be fair, the article from Oxford I shared earlier suggested that actual infection numbers haven't changed a great deal, but that the increase in testing means we're spotting more of them. This, coupled with our better understanding of how to protect those most at risk and treat those who are most unwell, is why death numbers haven't risen even as case numbers have. So if we can continue to prevent those for whom infection isn't that serious from passing it onto to those for whom it could be, then that seems a good thing in terms of remaining somewhat open over autumn and winter. Big if obviously.

Huge if.

Of course, but it is noticeable how in contrast to the spring, few people are paying much attention to the death count each day any more, which is presumably a positive as it remains pretty low? Even in countries such as Spain and France, who have had a huge spike in case numbers, their death counts remain an awfully long way below their spring numbers.

That's good, no?

To illustrate this, Spain is currently getting case numbers that are comparable with spring, but their death count is about 10% of what it was in spring. It's also worth remembering that they've had high case numbers now largely since the beginning of August, so this lay person would have thought were it to 'crossover' it might have done so by now, yet death tolls remain relatively low.

We can't keep things shut and restrict people until a vaccine. It's completely unrealistic and no one has a clue how long a timeframe it might be. All we know is it won't be soon, regardless of what Johnson says.

If hospitality and retail are restricted in the run up to Christmas then we are in huge trouble.

I wish them good look in stopping people getting together over Christmas too.

Which I strongly suspect they realise, hence why they’re taking such strong action now.

I mean personally I haven't paid attention for months because it's still >1 deaths per day regardless. I'm not arguing the situation isn't better now than earlier on I'm more laughing at how someone believes merely locking 70+ year olds away suddenly makes everything okay till the vaccine. Because we all know only 70+ year olds die of this thing...

Your mad if your healthy and less than 70 to be house bound due to this virus

you must have serious health anxiety

the following is a party political broadcast from the Conservative Party

Boris gets shot for not doing enough tests, then gets shot for setting a goal to do more. Meanwhile the U.K. is one the highest test performing countries in the world...

They do die of it in significantly greater numbers than the rest of the population. So if you're a young person hornicating with your buddies, you may be at relatively low risk hanging out with your peers, but visiting great aunt Gerald for tea and Countdown is probably not a good idea.

Which has always been my main issue.

I am not worried about my own health I am worried about the health of those at a greater risk than me.

Severe lack of altruism in this thread from Day 1.
