aye and that is the problem i refer to. they do have the power to fine people and that they will over the next few months. Watch this space as it were, social media will have plenty of stories soon enough about fines for nothing and people having to prove they don;t know the complete strangers near them. Just compare it to the smoking officers like i said earlier, plenty of stories where they issued fines for non smokers or those who had put the butt in a bin for example. With the famous line we saw you throw that butt on the floor etc.

What use is a prefect upholding the law if the public resent them for the wrong reasons?
Where are you getting that from, because I've not seen anything to suggest that's confirmed. In fact, much of the discussion is around clarification of the role.

I'm aware of the term, just querying where you've seen something suggesting they have powers to issue fines.

Think about it mate. Why employ and pay prefects as you put it to walk around public areas without any sort of power? How effective do you think that would be? They would be getting paid a few few quid to be told to F off on a daily basis.

However the power to issue a on the spot fine for social gatherings? That makes their job actually worthwhile.

Its common sense. They won't be given any additional powers because i am sure the opposition in parliment would push back on that given their ability to do that in regards to the mandate the government have to control during the pandemic. Fines is common place in these sorts of roles, especially private contractors as someone earlier said they may well be.

Fines in public places, issued by people who aren't the police or those with a recognised legal power is not.

That said, the government are ruling by diktat at present, so who knows what they'll come up with on Friday

So just the serfs then ?

Remember when he posted this.

I'm utterly speechless at how cavalier some are here: over a thousand lives taken each week still in the UK and all you can read is people asking where there's a place open to get a drink indoors.

Apart from the other basket case the US, there isn't a population of scallies like ours anywhere.

JUST STAY INDOORS AND HAVE SOME DISCIPLINE, FFS.

Socialist.

I remember reading when they passed the parimentary act that the opposition can oppose something if they deem it too far out of line. So that is one silver lining to what they can come up with, that it still has to remain in the realm of normal even if it doesn't make sense.

Nothing is going through Parliament. It's Emergency powers given to ministers. We've reclaimed our Parliamentary Sovereignty to completely undermine it.

You skated over this: "I'm utterly speechless at how cavalier some are here"

...which doesn't surprise me, given that you're one of the cavaliers recommending actions that have now secured a second wave...the second wave you told everyone wouldn't follow.

You wont be able to deflect with me. You advocated the type of behaviour that's led us into the abyss again. Did you think you could cover up and / or deny your attitude to relaxation and its consequences?

People are idiots what can you do. I've been doing the school drop off and see very few people who are trying to distance. People walking two abreast on the pavements making it impossible to get even a couple of feet distance. I despair that the fact they thought it was all done and dusted and they are going to keep prolonging this.

And yet you stated you hadn't made a mistake - even when you were shown one of your own posts where you called France's decision to lockdown on mass gatherings as 'an over reaction' back in March.

Maybe they were wrong to go and shut down and / or curtail numbers attending football matches and you were right to scold them for it?

Nope.

Read it again, then apologise. Serious men do.

It’s important to remember that the number of cases has not been rising because the number of people carrying the disease has been increasing, but instead because more tests are being carried out, and especially in areas where the rate at which people have the disease is found to be higher.

The main reasons why we know that the number of deaths has not been rising is that the actual number of cases in the population has not been rising when measured per million people tested.

Puts talking of "entering the abyss" into a degree of perspective.

Boris bring accused of breaking international law over Brexit whilst all these guidelines are going on. All we talk about is whether these rules make sense and not about the EU.

It's like we are being distracted by misinformation
