To be honest, I'm not sure why you keep quoting the hospital deaths figures in the way you do mate ?

You can get number of deaths in English hospitals by date of death from the official figures, and by date of death is a more useful number to see trends on. So from today's figures you see

Pretty much anything in July will be revised a fair bit going forward, so looking at daily stats of deaths published tells us very little. You'd be better off looking back a week or so, or just looking at the NHS England chart by date of death where the trend is fairly obvious

The number is what’s announced by the NHS themselves every afternoon, the rolling average figure I get off a guy on Twitter who has a data tracker

Why would they need to do 50% to entice people those? Loads of people have missed the dining out experience.
Isn't it just on week nights, to entice people trough the door on nights they wouldn't normally go.?

The problem is all these places are working on reduced capacity, so they need to get regular custom every night to make them pay. They can't just rely on weekends like they maybe could do in the past.

More people with colds = more people coughing and sneezing.
Anybody coughing should be self isolating anyway. Hopefully the number coughing at the same time will not be more than our testing ability, which is currently about 150k a day, so they'll know within a couple of days if they have covid or just a cold.

The autumn will certainly be a testing time for the test and trace system.

They can stay at home for a couple of days which is the time needed to get a test. They'll know then whether it is a cold or covid. Anybody who knowingly leaves the house having tested positive for covid needs locking up. Seriously.

So in the winter everybody who gets a cold should stay at home?

Christ mate, there's some people I know who have a cold almost every week in the Winter.

I wouldnt. Not for a million pounds. But 4 people at a table in a pub, with their details written down at the door, wont cause a massive outbreak.
Me and the missus have been out twice. For a drink on Sunday night whilst we waited for an Indian takeaway. The pub was very quiet, was really well organised for self distancing and a card system to leave your contact details when you left giving arrival and departure times. The second was last night, we went to a popular pub on the quayside which had ample outside seating and an outside bar set up or you could order and pay through their app. You logged in and out via their facebook on your phone. Because it was a bit cool we ate inside and it was empty in there.

Both venues had done everything possible to give protection against covid. One was busy and the other less so, but everybody was socially distancing within their groups, were sensible and well behaved and respected other peoples space. If I didn't feel totally comfortable at either venue I wouldn't have stayed, simple as that.

How do they know it's just a cold.?

So yes, if you get a bad cough or a fever (which often happens in the first couple of days of a cold), get yourself tested and stay at home until you get the results. They come through next day or within 2 days now. If that's too much to ask we're in trouble.

I don't get you at all on this Goat. One minute you're slagging people off for going to the pub and to beaches, and the next you're saying people shouldn't be expected to stay at home for a couple of days to wait on test results.

Im saying its completely unreasonable to expect people to stay at home with a cold mate.

Losing 2 days pay might not seem a lot to some, but its the difference between eating that week for others.

As I say, some people get multiple colds throughout the winter months, its not feasible at all.

I personally don't consider the pubs or beaches vital, people paying their bills is a different matter.

I realise people who work in pubs need to get paid also, that's why I've toned down my anti-pub stance a little, my view has changed now. The lockdown did its job, it flattened the curve, now its about getting the country back on its feet and people taking sick days for a cold doesn't help that.

Even before this pandemic people should have been encouraged to stay away from work if they’re sick. Far too many people go to work sick as it is. Even just cold & flu can knock an office on its arse but people feel like they’re committing a crime staying off with it.
