That wasnt lock down.

edit. The over reaction was about why 5000 folk in a shopping centre was ok in France.
Sophistry.

Your main point was that I was holed below the waterline on the response to the virus. I underlined that I moved to meet the facts, but that you - even when it was starting to be abundantly clear - were still seeing a curtailing of mass gatherings as "an over reaction".

Not happy to see new cases jump over a 1000 again after 3 days in the hundreds

New cases have a tendency to fluctuate a bit, and you end up with a graph which is a bit like a gentle roller coaster, all be it one which is going slightly downhill.

You see a very similar trend on hospital admissions. As long as the overall trend is down , it's not a major concern. If the trends start to tick up, then it's probably time to think about reassessing your own personal risk assessment.

Actually, roughly 400 admissions a day, though reducing, is still a concern, because down the line, that'll probably translate into about 30 hospital deaths a day further down the line. In the grand scheme of things, not a huge number, but still desperately disappointing, because they'll mostly be avoidable deaths.

Tradesmen have been swarming around my local, bought recently by some locals to keep it local just before Christmas, @peteblue for weeks. Most delivery drivers, well tons, are "self employed" and they have been coining it in.

Now the small shops are opening, hopefully some traction for them can start.

My fear is about the pubs opening on July 4th. Whoever recommended a Saturday has probably never been in a Pub. They should open on Monday 6th and that will give pubs a couple of days with slightly smaller crowds to sort out all the issues and problems with the ‘guidance’ prior to the big weekend.....

Is there any evidence to suggest the virus is losing potency? The case numbers coming out of the US are similar to a couple of months ago when they were at 2000 deaths a day. Can all this be attributed to increased testing? If not do you think there will be a dramatic spike in deaths in the next week or so?

Absolutely spot on. There is a reason why opening nights are never Friday or Saturdays

Spike definitely not due to increased testing, for instance Florida number have climbed as testing has decreased

and % of tests coming back positive is also increasing.

However seen data which will try to find again that a higher % of the cases are in younger people than in earlier months so hopefully that will reduce the number of fatalities.

The coronavirus pandemic has moved into younger populations across much of the US, a change that could mean less serious illness and lower rates of death, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.
"It is obvious that we are seeing right now infections that are targeting younger individuals," CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said during a media telebriefing.
Younger people may not be taking the risk of pandemic spread as seriously as they should, CDC's Dr. Jay Butler added. "We may need to get out the message that young people are not somehow naturally immune to this virus, although they may be at lower risk of severe infection," he said.

There is a helpful graph showing the change in age composition in this article

Do you know why loads of pubs have been open already?
