So many mentions of calling anyone mentioning the current pandemic as moaners amongst other things.

Genuinely believe after tonight if there isn't a flare up after this , beaches and protests that we are out of the pandemic. You can't have mass gatherings everywhere and still act like we are all going to die.

The virus may still exist but if literally thousands can gather and not see an influx of cases then surely we should all be safe to go back to normal.

Awkward situation tonight where my mum asked to hold our 6 week old baby saying that she 'doesn't do anything or go anywhere'. It was obviously a very difficult 'no'.

But then she went on to say she is getting her hair cut next week and is going to Windsor for the weekend in August.

It's obviously frustrating but it shows people genuinely don't get it.

Tough one mate isn't it. My mother in law is in her 70's and she is very wary of being near the kids and my mum has barely seen them (socially distanced outside her house) for visits.

All we can all do is do our best mate. I've had younger fellas than me genuinely not being arsed, older people not being arsed and so on.

We do what we think is best. Hope the baby is doing well as well mate and your both getting a good night's sleep ;)

My fear is about the pubs opening on July 4th. Whoever recommended a Saturday has probably never been in a Pub. They should open on Monday 6th and that will give pubs a couple of days with slightly smaller crowds to sort out all the issues and problems with the ‘guidance’ prior to the big weekend.....
Because it doesn't make as good a headline Pete.

Friday papers can declare 'pubs are open!'

Then shame Britons on Sunday for getting bladdered.

Elective surgeries aren’t just things like cosmetic surgery - they are anything that is scheduled in advance including some cancer or heart operations.

So you can go to a bar for a night out but a potentially life saving mastectomy will have to wait.

The big test will be when everyone is gathering indoors. We probably won't see thousands in one place indoors for a while yet. And luckily it's now summer so people are happy/able to be outside more. But as pubs, restaurants, cinemas, public transport all start moving back towards normal numbers that is when we will have an idea.

I'm not convinced that we will see a proper second wave. And I don't think we will go back to another lockdown. But what has happened so far since the relaxing of the lockdown is not the litmus test. That comes when move back towards "normal".

Basically looks like all of the protests in the US in late May lead to infections(shocker I know) among the mostly young crowds, which also explains why deaths havent seen a rise a month later as the younger people are far less effected.

Here in Finland the bláse attitude is rife ,I went to a big mall last week and was the only one with a mask and I also wear disposable gloves .We see very few in masks now and it really worries me .Yes in Finland we have gotten away quite lightly about 327 with a population of 5.5 million but if I catch it I will be gone for sure .They still don't understand that yes most won't die but they can kill someone like me by their actions .

Sophistry.

Your main point was that I was holed below the waterline on the response to the virus. I underlined that I moved to meet the facts, but that you - even when it was starting to be abundantly clear - were still seeing a curtailing of mass gatherings as "an over reaction".

Nope.

Spike definitely not due to increased testing, for instance Florida number have climbed as testing has decreased

and % of tests coming back positive is also increasing.

However seen data which will try to find again that a higher % of the cases are in younger people than in earlier months so hopefully that will reduce the number of fatalities.

Does seem to be younger people. However, I think there is a significant risk these younger people pass It on to those at higher risk though, which in time will filter through to deaths.

I think I’d expect to see deaths climbing again in the US in the next 3-4 weeks.

Hope to God I am wrong.

Genuinely, good on you for sticking with your morals and saying no. Even though the rules are relaxing, I think people still need to consider the situation we're in.

There will be people who'll be blasé and interpret the rules/guidance to their fullest advantage (look I can do this...), but others like yourself will still be cautious.

Even though I've worked throughout, we're careful with regard when we're at home, so my parents have stood at the end of the path or in the corner of the garden.

Not sure that’s an accurate reflection of the situation.

Yes a few thousand people meeting up is bad, but the reality is that in a country of 66 million people it’s a drop in the ocean.

It’s the day to day mingling of millions which spreads a virus through a nation, particularly indoors and for prolonged periods in this case.

Its very dangerous for us to get into the trap of thinking that these events coupled with no spike mean we can all return to normal.
