it isn't; its in effect a big ward in an NHS hospital

I think it's a bit more than that. It's a major trauma unit with well over a thousand beds plus the staff and equipment to support it. So using this to treat coronavirus patients is a smart move imo. Only surprised that it's taken this long for the govt to realise

thats the whole hospital; the military bit is a unit within it

I ultimately think every strategy leads down the same inevitable road - most people will get it, most survive and unfortunately some dont like most cases of illness.

Essentially the only alternative is complete lockdowns lasting months if not years which would result in economic chaos and thousands homeless without hand sanitizers.
From what I can tell most governments accept most people will get it, the different strategies seemed to be concerned with the speed of the spread.

It would seem the speed of spread is not that much of a variable. The element that may be controlled is the point at which lockdown occurrs. This is what the UK gamble is, delay the lockdown rather than the virus.

80% of the UK is estimated to get it. Approximately 100/400 000 people will die in the uk. Really who gives a toss about football?

I sorta do to be honest. Not at the expense of people dying, but it's not a zero sum situation where you're not allowed to care about one or the other.

I really, really, reallllly want Liverpool not to win the title. I'd obviously rather there was no virus and they won the title, but given the reality, I'd still be happy with them not winning it as a silver lining.

First night of what is pretty much isolation completed in Madrid. We drank a lot of ale and laughed at the situation. Whether the Mrs is doing that in 15 days after being with just me will be another thing altogether.

At 10pm everyone went out to their balconies to clap doctors and nurses, it was a nice moment. Happened all across Spain too. It just feels surreal to not be able to live life as we would want to for the foreseeable.

I'm looking forward to getting clapped to work.
