Haven't popped in here for a while... what's the thinking these days?

From my view the pandemic is of course an ongoing issue, but now the 2nd and 3rd order issues need to take precedence.. getting the economy going again, working out how schools are going to operate, and from there working out what "normal" means going forward..

oh great timing mr tinfoil. hope ur well buddy.

Unfortunately no mate I don’t! Ok then by the end of June early July we 100% will see thousands upon thousands dead in America and the UK as a result of the protests! Do you agree?
Hopefully not mate. It's proven the disease is not as virulent outside as it is indoors. I haven't seen many of the demonstrations as watching the news excessively depresses me, but from what I have seen of the UK demonstrations, most people appeared to have been wearing masks which will help stop the spread.

But you are right in that with so many people not socially distancing there is definitely an increased risk of cross contamination. Let's hope it's not as high as you predict.

If the test and trace system set up works, we should, in 2/3 weeks time, have some idea of the amount of spread resulting from these demonstrations. However my fear is that some people who took part in them will for some reason, not participate in test and trace, which will in itself lead to more infections. We'll see.

well TBH it was all getting way too vitriolic and becoming a politically entrenched witch hunt. I see things haven't really improved on that front.
i like to think of the good buddies in here holding all to account and avoiding it becoming an echo chamber my friend. what do u think about 5g anyway??

Ok officially done with COVID. It doesn't exist in my mind now. Please open up everything thanks!! I need a bar with more than 50% capacity. Need football. Need shopping. Want to go to the movies. If you dont want to open your business or are scared to death of it, simply dont go out.

There was a quote yesterday that according to surveillance (surprising term) there's growing evidence to suggest that people are choosing to ignore symptoms.

That's before asking people to wilfully comply with track and trace without a legal obligation to do so. All this raises the validity of the r0 rate etc.

Do you think hay fever may be an issue here. Many people suffer from it and a lot get sore throats/coughs

Could be, in fact I hope so. The quote, which was on the BBC, stated:

"Monday's data shows there were 1,205 new infections diagnosed, but surveillance suggests the true figure may be five times higher."

Alas, surveillance in its purest form refers to close observation so perhaps could refer to it being scrutinised, however the normal connotation is much darker.

We know that China and Israel to name a few have used such measures to monitor the progress of the virus, therefore it does raise questions about its reference.

That's pretty much the current national consideration. Economy messaging has jumped in front of public health communications now.

Yeah "surveillance" is certainly a strange word to use, but I suspect it's just a case of the writer couldn't think of a better word/phrase to use at the time.

The 1205 figure yesterday was from those that had tested positive. We know the actual figure will be a lot higher because not everybody with symptoms will have tests and some will be asymptomatic. 5 times higher seems reasonable and in line with ONS produced figures. maybe they are quoting the ONS figures.
