It wasn't really. There was a significant time to address it once it was known about, but it took huge amounts of effort and finance to avoid it.

Agree. The Y2K problem was identified and a monumental effort was undertaken to correct it. The problem with dealing with an issue successfully is the issue is later deemed by some with the benefit of hindsight to have been overhyped or larger than it was.
We can now, unfortunately, see that Covid was not overhyped in the UK. But no doubt had we managed to keep the figures under 20k as was the initial benchmark as a 'success' can you imagine how 'overhyped' Covid would be now?
