The vast majority of people do care.

I haven’t seen anybody I know personally apart from my other half for well over 2 months. Same goes for many of my friends.

We are very much in the minority at this point.

I went to visit my mum last week, I hadnt seen her for 3months, we sat in her back garden about 12 foot apart.

But according to some in here the whole thing is just media-driven rubbish and we have no reason to be careful.

True, but they ( the govt ) didn't, so they ( the protests ) are. It's a bit like saying some idiot lit a fire, so the people who stuck their hands in the flames bear no responsibility for ending up in a burns department in their local hospital.

To be honest, I have more sympathy with the protesters breaking the 2 metre rule than people who went to crowded beaches and did the same, but, although the protesters hold the moral high ground, the virus doesn't care about morals.
What I am hoping is that it really doesn’t spread that much outdoors.

I feared the worse when saw the Florida beaches pre lockdown and again with these parties in the Ozarks post lockdown yet there does not seem to be major outbreaks from either despite almost no mask wearing.
This would be really good news if pans out

There also doesn’t seem to have been much from the Michigan protests against lockdown a few weeks ago.

Perhaps it is just not visible in the data yet but cross fingers.

If your obese and/or old stay in and shelter

The rest crack on

Graph is pointless unless you can tell me how many of that graph are tourists and when they stopped travelling to london.

The day after lockdown began there was a massive and sustained drop in movement, you can’t explain that away using “tourists”. Unless you’re trying to somehow imply that 80% of the movement in London on a normal day is driven by tourism, which is clearly not true.

You can also see the exact same results in Manchester and Birmingham.

I see plenty of outrage here about the crowds at the protests. I’m sure I can safely assume that all of the same posters expressed the same level of outrage on here when the scenes of crowded beaches came out a week ago.......

i am a lot more pissed off about the crowded beaches, just selfish ignorant people who are too childish to sit still during all of this. We live in a society where more and more people love to play video games and binge on netflix, yet now that we're being told to pretty much do just that, everyone's behaving like a kid at school, not liking being told what to do. I reckon a lot more people now are exercising than they would do normally, just because they feel like they need an excuse to get out of the house ... the same people who are usually happy to stay inside about 360 days of the year in a normal year.

Just my guess though. I don't think there's a right or wrong way to view the protest demonstrations, those people obviously felt it had to be done now in light of recent events, which is fully understandable, i agree with them on that. I believe it's something that should have been undertaken with social distancing in mind though, but it's hard enough to get someone to stay 2 metres away from you when you're queuing up to a shop, people are still too thick to properly grasp the concept.

Let's just say, my faith in humanity is at an all time low and i feel there was a few different factors contributing to people wanting to be part of the protests as opposed to being there for the reason they were set up.

In reality, if the latest ONS survey is accurate, then, on average, there's one in a thousand people infected at any one time in the UK. You'd hope no-one with symtoms would be stupid enough to demonstrate, so it's probably less than that for people walking about. In a crowd of 5 to 10 thousand, there were likely to be up to 10 infected people. If they were wearing masks and at least trying to social distance when possible, transmission was probably quite small.

A lot depends on what people do after the demos. If anyone infected lives alone and keeps their distance, then, chances are, little harm is done. But if they work in an environment where they're in contact with vulnerable people, then it ain't so great.

Hope that those who were arrested in particular are cautious and get tested/self isolate - there have been multiple outbreaks in jails previously as no masks, impossible to maintain good hygiene/social distance and, at least in US, the tear gas will have increased those coughing and the after effects may make people more vulnerable to infection.
