I don't like quoting the rag but the Echo are currently reporting the emergency press conference between the Merseyside and G. Manchester metro mayors.

In the medium term, the ONS survey really needs expanding so that 1000's, if not 10's of thousands of people are sampled every week in all the major areas of the country ( North-West, North-East, Midlands etc ). Relying purely on models is going to lead to substantial margins of error, there's no substitute for real data, which can then be fed back into the models to test them, and improve their accuracy.

At the moment, R is probably close to one in the North-West, but we're dealing in guesswork, of which one is currently getting all the headlines, and even that is being mis-reported a bit because the PHE / Cambridge estimate ranges from .83 to 1.18 with a best estimate of 1.01. So it's not definitely above 1, but it probably isn't far from being 1 and could be a bit either side of it, so we're definitely at risk of losing control of the virus locally.

Details are at https://www.mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk/now-casting/

77 is the all settings figure for the day, 127 down on yesterday and 36 down on last Sunday. This brings the 7 day rolling average down again to 229.71 with the earlier figures for hospitals bringing that average down to 135.43

Has anything come out after that emergency meeting between liverpool and manchester mayors today?

Lads I know that we're due to start a job on the street work in Liverpool tomorrow have been told it's off, don't know if it's connected but what are the chances they could lockdown the North west

If they did, the police would have to be issued with new advice on how they are expected to deal with it going forward, compared to how they have been instructed to deal with it the last couple of months.

The asda busy, people queuing for self checkouts like theres no virus, why do people queue so close to strangers in the first place even before this virus but doing it now is even weirder!

Seems as though they will try and follow separate figures from 16 different boroughs to give a more localised idea of the measures needed.
Also advised staying home as still the best option, as opposed to unnecessary outings, and reiterated that test and trace had a big part to play.
