Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I know someone that's started teaching in China fairly recently ( late last year ) and, even with all the [Poor language removed] hitting the fan with COVID, they're loving it. If you've got the right skills, then, as an English speaker, getting a job out there is by no means impossible.

I think they went through

There's lot of other opportunities in China and all over the world, I've lived and worked in other countries and recommend it. Lots of people say they're going to do it, but few mean it and do it. If you really want to do it Dave, then do it and be one of the few, not the many.
Well, I wouldn't get in anywhere right now, would I?

I doubt any nation is accepting citizens from a cesspit country where Covid19 is raging.

Take a look at what's happening elsewhere in Europe coming out of lockdown. Track and trace in place, infections right down, deaths in smaller numbers. No wonder the government dont put the graphs up anymore.

If you think this is the time to lift the lockdown I would suggest you've been conned.

15th May

"Italy is taking a "calculated risk" as it moves to further ease its coronavirus lockdown measures, PM Giuseppe Conte has admitted.

He said "the contagion curve" could rise again, but the country could not afford to wait for a vaccine.

Mr Conte announced that travel to and from Italy, and between the country's regions would be allowed from 3 June.

Gyms, swimming pools and sports centres will reopen on 25 May, and cinemas and theatres on 15 June.

The authorities said there were 153 deaths in the past 24 hours. "

This is where media manipulation plays a massive part in not helping people’s moods, stuff posted on social media of full beaches or parks and roads, warnings from councils to avoid places, papers falling over themselves to get the scoops on hotspots

Add to that the controversies of MPs breaking lockdowns for trysts or BS excuses when ill and it becomes a convoluted mess

I saw a report saying they did it with panic buying that reporting of panic buying rather than reporting of the rows of full Shelves led to more panic buying . Whilst the constant reporting of breaches of rules leads many people to think well “why should I be Staying in when nobody else is ?” . Also Cummings definitely had an impact I can’t believe anyone would argue against it .

I’m not saying any of these things should matter but they definitely do .

It will be interesting to see how the government, and their 'experts', drop the 14 day quarantine on arrival and the reasons/rational for doing so.

More than 200 travel and hospitality businesses have joined a campaign urging the government to overturn its planned 14-day quarantine for arrivals into the UK, PA Media reports.

The group of major hotels, travel companies and restaurateurs claim the policy is “unworkable” and are calling for air bridges to be created which enable people to travel - without being quarantined - between countries where the risk of being infected by coronavirus is deemed to be low.

George Morgan-Grenville, the chief executive of tour operator Red Savannah, who is leading the campaign, said:

This is not just a group of company bosses complaining, but employees from bottom to top calling for the quarantine plans to be quashed.
The extent of their pain is deeply worrying for our economy and our country.
More than 200 businesses have signed the letter to the home secretory, Priti Patel".

Hopefully those firms will be told to get back in their box - “air bridges” are an idea that would be stupid even if countries weren’t already, sensibly, refusing to let us in.

Hopefully is the best we can hope for. Seeing as one of the main 'experts', Whitty doesn't believe restricting air travel and quarantining is a good idea as the 'economic' cost is too high and as a result can't be sold to the government..

Is it true that the those who have been categorised as 'shielding' in England, need to return to work today if their employer requires it?
The only change that I have heard about is that they are being allowed to leave their home, together with one member of their household who they already have close contact with daily. They have to socially distance and can't go to the supermarket and things like that.

Basically it was aimed to give people, especially those with no outdoor space, a chance to get out and about having been scooped up for 3 months.

The government may have made other announcements and I asked that question before but nobody has responded . So as far as I'm concerned the only change is that the stay in your own home message has been relaxed very slightly

It's pretty funny watching people defiantly declare how they are going to remain indoors despite what government guidelines say, like Boris is going to come round your house and force you to see your mates.

There's a growing belief that the 14-day quarantine has very little value and the government know this, but what it does do is placate* certain aspects of the country.

Cheers guys, there are claims already that some are being compelled by employers, awful if so imo.
Then I am sure that if they are indeed one of those being shielded they will have full protection as regards job security. Any companies trying to enforce or bully them should be exposed too. Sadly there are such people out there

Maybe they can get signed off sick by their medic in a few weeks to get SSP? I think they now come under the 'work from home if you can' guidelines.
