Is it true that the those who have been categorised as 'shielding' in England, need to return to work today if their employer requires it?

I'm not sure the actual wording or logistics of it, but I think no. The initial steps were that they could go outdoors and visit one person outside.

There's definitely no change on the work front for those shielding. The guidance there hasn't changed, so most people shielding will be working from home or be on furlough.

It's very confused. Effectively all the information stays the same if you are shielding, but you can now leave the house but do so very distanced from other...but, you or your employer are only advised to do that and the current advice is that of you cannot work from home, then you need to discuss options with your employer - but there is no real protection for shielding people under the legislation.

Everything is advisory and consultative with your employer. Some will be good others won't.

I think there's been a bit of confusion based on the government's initial guidelines (the numbered system) suggested they'd be allowed when at level one.

Aren't we at level four or three? I'm not saying they shouldn't be allowed out to exercise, but the whole advice does feel a bit ad hoc and inconsistent.

As @JEBUS_LIVES mentions, whether they should or should not go to work or can they be forced to is a bit of a grey area where some will exploit,.

Teachers specifically...

Cheers guys, there are claims already that some are being compelled by employers, awful if so imo.
Lots of frustration coming from vol, community and faith sectors about the shielding announcement as they've effectively had no time to digest and consider it in advance of the decision.

Just an announcement and left to people to interpret quite complex guidelines.

Honestly, Dave, millions of people emigrate all over the world every year. Why not try it and see how your perspective changes? Even a year or two. If you genuinely hate everything about living in Britain as much as you say then what is holding you back ?
As soon as it's humanly possible to leave Britain, I will. It's a cesspit. We all know it.

Shouldnt we have waited another 2 weeks before letting those shielding out to see how the land lies
Mate, I think we could take that question stem 'Shouldn't we...' and apply it to many different questions regarding today's removal or loosing of restrictions.

Today you've got schools going back, those shielding allowed out, more people going back to work (including public transport) and more larger socialising.

I simply can't fathom how they will successfully (or at best easily) use the tracking and tracing system, when it's not ready, to identify and isolate the causes.

The sensible option would have been staggered to ease the tracers in and it would allow them to see which part (and how much) of the easing contributed to a rise.

Instead, it's almost like, "Here we go..." and play some Russian roulette. Bellends!
