Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I think the government have seriously mishandled this whole thing but they aren’t ordering them out are they ? Plus it’s not like mad max thunderdome out there , it’s clearly a dangerous time particularly for the vulnerable but you make it sound like unless it’s you on your Daily bike rides everyone leaving the house people are either scum or about you die .

Finally for an avowed socialist are you completely comfortable with the way you’re dismissing large sections of society with their ‘staffies ‘ and the other day talking about stuffing their faces with ‘Greggs ‘ ? It’s the kind of language we see from the countryside living tories dismissing those that live in the cities ,actually in this thread . if it was me I’d wonder about the company I was keeping and the language I was using .

If you hand people stuck indoors for 3 months the chance to get out, it's compelling. People will feel the urge to get out there even into a toxic environment for them. Why torment them with that when they had already told them that the earliest it would be reviewed was 1st July? You cant support that, surely?

As for calling people for failing to observe social distancing (still in place might I remind you), yes, I feel entirley comfortable as a socialist doing that. Socialists aren't libertarians. There's a need for social order and discipline to preserve the best conditions possible for the majority.

its busy out there but people have been locked in their house for weeks , many of these people traditional labour supporters with no gardens to speak of and trying to break the monotony and enjoy a little sun . Most people I see are respecting the guidelines and certainly aren’t worthy of much of the abuse being tipped on them particularly by people who are out and about and opining about the madness of people daring to be out and about as they cycle by .

I’ve been making the same point as you mate but it falls on deaf ears.

The language used towards normal people who dared to leave the house is disgusting.

People can leave the house and go outside. They don’t need people trying to shame them for doing so.

What is this world you live in?

I went out at the weekend, to the park and it was great. Plenty of space between people and everyone adhering to the guidelines.

If someone who has been shielding for ten weeks and not left the house asked me if it was safe to go the park I’d say yes. It’ll probably do them some good and they’ll be grateful for it.

You paint a world of complete chaos and it isn’t like that when I go out.
Yeah, "everywhere" is like that.

It's quite incredible how things have gone so wrong so quickly. It seems they're making bad decision after bad decision at the moment.
That seems to be the problem for the Government at the moment and particularly the likes of @peteblue and the 'lets move on' crowd; you more on into another disaster.

GPs aren't happy about the announcement either. Completely unsighted on the decision

I think both Dave's and your viewpoints have some merit. Some people are obviously travelling a long way to hit the beaches, rather than a local open space. I would have thought some sort of restriction would have been sensible, like the 5miles in Wales, or somesuch.

Additionally, wouldn't have taken too much effort for the government to manufacture masks and have had a bit of a campaign/requirement thing going on...

I’m not saying Some people aren’t passed the lockdown , you’d be insane to think there are groups of people not ignoring it . That doesn’t mean it’s the lord of the flies out there and that 99% of people are scum

Most places are, but you won’t see that as it doesn’t make a good news story.
Take a look at what's happening elsewhere in Europe coming out of lockdown. Track and trace in place, infections right down, deaths in smaller numbers. No wonder the government dont put the graphs up anymore.

If you think this is the time to lift the lockdown I would suggest you've been conned.

Obviously the icu beds are not filled yet. The hospitals are not overwhelmed and people livelihood are in danger. Lockdown idea was to help the NHS and it was never meant lockdown till covid is wiped or waiting for a vacine
They soon will be.

well maybe you and @peteblue can get together and talk about Chav’s , greggs and staffies and how scummie they all are . You can agree how much better the countryside is than the city without all the ‘scum’ .

As soon as it's humanly possible to leave Britain, I will. It's a cesspit. We all know it.
No you wont.

I know someone that's started teaching in China fairly recently ( late last year ) and, even with all the [Poor language removed] hitting the fan with COVID, they're loving it. If you've got the right skills, then, as an English speaker, getting a job out there is by no means impossible.

I think they went through

There's lot of other opportunities in China and all over the world, I've lived and worked in other countries and recommend it. Lots of people say they're going to do it, but few mean it and do it. If you really want to do it Dave, then do it and be one of the few, not the many.

I don’t think it’s time to lift the lockdown, but I do feel like lifting certain restrictions on how we socialise outdoors are fine considering the rate of transmission outdoors.

We’ve never been in lockdown anyway. We’ve always been able to leave the house

This is where media manipulation plays a massive part in not helping people’s moods, stuff posted on social media of full beaches or parks and roads, warnings from councils to avoid places, papers falling over themselves to get the scoops on hotspots

Add to that the controversies of MPs breaking lockdowns for trysts or BS excuses when ill and it becomes a convoluted mess
