Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I'm not being glib. I'm following the advice of the experts from around the world in that I'm not travelling, I'm maintaining rigorous hand hygiene and will self-isolate when this thing knocks on our door. If I'm not on here moaning about things or mulling over every rise in the statistics then I do apologise, but as a freelancer with no state safety net underneath me, it's an additional stress I can do without. If that's okay with you like?
That's perfectly fine with me, but if you state an opinion that insinuates the UK position is infallible because they are following expert advice then plenty are going to quite rightly offer alternative expert views, and will most probably also be doing so from the stress of what may come of this

There’s a major case of argumentum ad populum fallacy going on here.

Lots of world leaders taking a decision doesn’t mean that decision is the right one.

Just from reading this thread’s last few pages I’ve seen a link to an article suggesting the virus can remain within the body for 37 days. There is no world here where we can lock nations down for that period of time.

Millions of jobs would be lost. Pension savings would be obliterated. Lives of millions would be destroyed. That is a fact.

Stop being so calm about this and talking sense.

Haven't you seen the news. This thing could and will kill millions.

I wouldn't ever say that experts can't be wrong, but they blatantly know far more on this topic than you or I, and the recommendations for individuals are consistent around the world, so those are what I'm following. I'm not really sure what else to say, so I hope whatever happens in this thread brings some relief to those who partake.

@Diogenes the Cynic I think Brennan has just gazumped 'glib' as word of the day by whipping out some Latin.

At the moment, the impact has been minimal, but if clients decide to put work on hold, or to not pay, then that's not so good. A number of other freelancers I know have said that work has just vanished. I know thinking about basic survival stuff like putting food on the table is a dirty topic, but it would be good if the economy didn't go completely to [Poor language removed], as I fear the repercussions of that would be far worse than from this virus.

i’m being light hearted but my shares have been decimated and I’ve got money in bars so the footy season suspension , the likely national cancellation , the parade, people staying home has already hit home . Less people out for gold cup yesterday than last year without doubt but bills still need paying . This is going to be messy

It does seem inevitable.
