They've not covered themselves in glory with this crisis but finance is the one area where they've stood upto the plate

Don't take this wrong way mate but really getting sick of you slagging off schools on here now acting like teachers have just been sat doing nothing. You can have your opinion and you are entitled to it but with what you have been saying the past week or two you really don't seem to have a clue how a school operates and the difficulties they face. It's a logistical nightmare trying to keep pupils, parents and staff safe. But the way you go on it seems so simple.

No offence taken at all. I don't wish to be critical of schools, but they have known this time would come for 10 weeks and all we hear at the moment is that what seems to work in other countries won't work here and we're practically sending every teacher to the firing squad.

Cummins referred to teachers as the blob precisely because of their inability to adapt or be creative. Do by all means show the evidence to refute that during the pandemic. We know that new lessons haven't been taught, and the perception is very much that no steps have been taken to prepare for full reopening.

It's popular in these threads to have a pop at the government for their apparent failures, and many of those pops are justified. What have the schools been doing to not justify such scrutiny?

Well surely they should announce that any expense a school entails in re opening will be covered by the Gov
I find it strange they have not as yet

TBF Bruce there is SFA they can do unless they get more staff and double their classrooms in the next 2 weeks

In our village, there is a primary school and a pub a hundred yards apart. The pub is closed but consists of three rooms with tables and chairs, plus additional empty space upstairs, a very large car park and a very large decking area with seating and tables. It could simply have been taken over to provide additional space for students......there are sports halls and gymnasiums and no end of other buildings laying empty in every town and village in the country....a little bit of imagination would help, but I expect the Teaching Unions would find a problem with this......

They must have been some big eared hamsters!

The last time I heard of Hamsters used in an experiment the poor chap ended up in hospital and the doctors had to retrieve the distressed hamster lol

All fair points, but it’s also fair to say there has never been a more well funded, resource allocated, globalised and cooperative political approach to developing a vaccine either in history.

From a development point of view this is breaking new ground.

If the School burnt down, we would immediately offer the pub as an alternative and I’m damned sure all of the parents and teachers would be happy for it to be so. Equipment can be provided, toilets are in place, a kitchen and facilities are available. In every other way it resembles a school, heck there is even office space, fast internet, and rooms for the teachers to relax. My granddaughters ‘school‘ is currently a dining room and she’s doing ok......

They have often said money is not an issue in fighting this pandemic. They are very poor in keeping the public informed generally, but this is one thing that doesn't need publically stating IMO. I take it as read they would cover costs of schools opening. I mean they fund schools anyway

Chinese schools only have one pupil each mate.

I`ve seen the video and not only was it heart warming, but it was also a completely true reflection of every day life at a regular Chinese school lol
