Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I feel the same mate, wouldn't mind watching it but at the same time don't think it's right that they're doing it. They're also not showing it free to air so I think people are bound to congregate in some ways or others
this is another point which should be addressed, I agree.

It's not sentient mate, it doesn't sit in someone's lungs thinking of the best way to survive.

However, under normal circumstances, it's best chance of surviving is to mutate to something less deadly. Unfortunately, there's no indication of that happening, or being likely to happen.
True.. normally the most deadly pathogens don't get very far as dead or seriously ill hosts aren't very effective spreaders.

What is proving to be the curve ball with this particular virus is how it seems able to make some severely ill, yet barely touch others. The data now showing lots of asymptomatic hosts. An absolute nightmare if we're not on top of testing.

Is it me, or has the butcher's address last Sunday been utterly taken apart now, and less than a week later it's in tatters?

Back to work met with hostility (rounded off today by the teachers refusing to comply)
Workplace distancing procedures rubbished by unions
R-number heading upward
Ridiculous conflicting info on distancing (house buyers can visit your home, but not family)

This looks a defeated government on Covid19 to me. It cant go on like this without a series of sackings and forced resignations.

It's the typical Tory announcement politics/policy that is unraveling and in other times the announcement is kicked down the road, but it has become the here and now and therefore get found out. Due to the care home crisis the Tories have said they'd recruit 20 000 extra care workers by next week, let's see what happens. Nil pois I suspect.

It's only an in-vitro trial, so it's very early days ( also bear in mind that chloroquine looked hopeful at the in-vitro stage, but has pretty much ended up in the bin ), but, with those caveats, this still looks hopeful

Could be one of the reasons mate, id be reluctant to make definitive judgement on it. Anecdotally i think older people are more likely to be at home or living in a multi generational environment in Italy or Spain then in Ireland, so it could be a higher risk in the group environment of residential care in Ireland certainly, or contributions from some of the other reasons i mentioned. Certainly a question for reflection for us here.

What struck me was comparatively how we were tracking the average up to the 70-79 bracket in our care and then saw a massive jump when we look at our care of the 80-89 group comparatively. Lots to questions for us to reflect, analyse and to be answered there.
I hate to think what our Banana Republic comparative figures are for all groups.

Part of why hiring contact tracers is proving difficult: it’s not as such a simple job as people would have you believe -

I think I read somewhere that they're looking for 3000 people at that level, and then another 15,000 people who wouldn't need to have such high levels of qualifications or skills, but even getting 3000 people at that level won't be straightforward.

It's difficult for Nosferatu Cummings et al to handle this crisis. It comes down to deaths, and no matter which way they try and tweak it statistically it's a story of failure. That failure has permeated down to the population; people dont trust them to keep them safe and the hoped for return to work wont materialise in the numbers they want...kids back in school is a major part of that and it's being shredded by the teachers.
