Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Yes, but it works both ways and don't be surprised if people tell you your posts are stupid.

You might want to reduce the name calling by actually doing perhaps even the smallest bit of research and critical thinking.

I’ve followed this quite closely from the outset. Even before most knew about Wuhan.

As you see I started the thread and I knew what was coming.

Please don’t insult my intelligence. If you don’t agree with my opinion then fair enough.

Teachers in state school age groups, mortality per 100,000 who contracted Covid in brackets

40 to 44 - 16,471 (41)
45 to 49 - 15,420 (82)
50 to 44 - 11,477 (148)
55 to 59 - 6,877 (257)

Ignoring over 59 as you would hope they would be automatically shielded.

We could expect to see 53 teachers die from COVID if improperly protected. That protection is not possible in the current circumstances according to teaching unions.

Some people seem to think that's worth it to teach kids for a month.

Also need to consider vulnerable staff. I am under 59 but classed as vulnerable (not extremely though so would be expected in).

And then the people they live with. Again, I live with someone very vulnerable.

Guess I am a selfish monster and not the hero the Daily Mail says we need.

i think it's pretty easy for students to be 2m away from teachers at all time.

How you considered that some parents may be desperate for kids to go back to school because of there work?

In a primary school? In reception and year one? Okay....

Nah you are ok.. i have to actually go to work!

And we are still working as well. Again -- not furloughed.

For someone who says their partner is a teacher you seem to have a simultaneous lack of understanding of the realities of teaching and a thinly veiled distain for teachers.

His mrs is probably getting rogered by the postie while he's out on his necessary three hour bike rides. (Its a joke)

Schools in Belgium are open today for a trial day. Under 10s only, temperature taken on the way in, hands sanitized regularly, masks all day, lanes in the corridors and the whole place shut down again if any kid or member of staff tests positive.

My girlfriend is a classroom assistant and trainee teacher and none of the staff are happy at all. Basically they're being used as daycare for the children of people who want to go back to work who are too young to be left alone.

I don't have a distain at all. All jobs have risks. I'd imagine you knew the risks when you decided to become a teacher? Schools are full of germs, so you are more likely to get flu than someone who sits at a desk all day.

Unless you only went into teaching for the good $$$ and extortionate holiday entitlement?

do you share the same concerns for the supermarket staff who are still working to provide you with food who earn considerably less than teachers??

Sounds like a wonderful environment for learning.

Utterly ridiculous.

Rings a bell... At least they're getting PPE though and not told that they don't need it.

Hope your partner stays safe!

That seems to be the concensus across the education discussions I've seen.

As with the school staff here, and I actually appreciate the need because restarting the economy is important when you look at the cost to the treasury.

Nevertheless, I personally feel the relaxation in all sectors is far too soon when you consider the infection and death rate; a little more caution is required.

This is applicable to schools as well because I simply can't see how this won't have an impact to the wider population: staff; families; parents etc.

If the rate is low enough come June 1st or soon after then great, but I get the impression that this initiative is being pushed regardless of the science and numbers.
