Just saw a story break on Twitter about the US state of Ohio. They are estimating that they have over 100k cases. I pray that is not true

It’s not really surprising. The UK is estimated to have 10k infected. The real figures will be much higher than those reported.

I reckon by this time next week, many of us will either have symptoms or will personally know someone who has symptoms.

While it isn’t a major health worry for generally fit people, the risk of transmission to elderly relatives, plus the major effect this will have on every day life means this is going to be a major, major event that will have lasting impact.

I’ve never known anything like it.

Don't know who this guy is, but if what he says is true, that's super concerning.

Depends really.

If 1% are carrying it, then, unless deaths and hospitalisations caused by COVID-19 are being missed, it might mean that, though it's very infectious, it's less serious for large parts of the population than first thought ?

Having said that, I'm wary of that 100,000 estimate.

thays my issue. I have grandparents who aren’t necessarily of ill health, but they’re well into their 80s and 90s.
I’ll have a heavy week if I Get Corona Virus, but if they get it, then they’re getting a harder time.

Personally I get it, I understand why they’re reluctant to call lockdown, with businesses struggling etc, it could easily cause a recession, I’d be surprised if it doesn’t, but we need a reality check, people’s lives are at stake.

Just went online to do a supermarket shop. All delivery appointments booked up till 25 March, the last slot which they have on their site. I'm gonna have to brave the streets

What would you do Dave. Close everywhere down then have no money to pay for anything ?, close all the schools forcing numerous nurses and key workers to stay at home to look after them or put them with grandparents who will then pick up any germs going. Doing something is infinitely easier than doing the right thing. Boris is being advised what to do, he is not stupid, he will do as advised. If you know a better way please let us know.....

What the government should have been doing over these last weeks, which they’ve thrown away, is to encourage neighbourhoods, communities, supported by the local public health directors and a joined-up NHS. They should have been encouraging people to have their own family plans about how they will maintain the family show on the road, who will be taking the kids to school, how do you entertain them in the Easter holidays? They should have been much clearer, sooner, about making it clear that people shouldn’t be travelling so they could cancel their holidays and get their money back on the insurance. They haven’t done any of that. Who’s going to look after elderly people – stop them having to go out, do their shopping for them? People should have been doing that planning – they should have been pointed in that direction by the government. There’s been no discussion about that at all.” - Professor John Ashton, a former regional director of public health for north-west England.

All the chickens will come home to roost now: the cutting and underfunding of local authorities, the foisting of social care onto them; the failure to massively expand the NHS and fund it properly.

The politics you support will devastate this country now.
