Unfortunately the same professionals that stated it was ok to sit next to someone for 90 minutes with no space between you whatsoever. Five minutes later the same professionals say you must stay 2 metres apart from anyone you are assisting with their groceries etc....because that’s what brits do.

It may make sense to some but their reasoning is beyond my addled brain.

So how does getting thousands of fans together in one place - including pubs before and after, plus concourse mingling, toilets and crammed public transport actually slow the process?

Surely it speeds up the transmission rate thus causing the spike you point out?

They seem to more worried about people getting bored at home.

Obviously I am into my jack Daniels too much to understand their logic.....but I’m content with my lot at the mo.

Not overall no, well maybe by a bit, but emergency planning has always been about shifting resources around.

The lack of investment over the last ten years will almost certainly cost lives as the virus spreads, but to fully cope with what looks like a ( literally ) once in a lifetime event, we'd have had to budget for an awful lot of slack in the system, and I'm not convinced there's ever been an appetite for quite that level of investment.
