He makes a very convincing argument that the sooner you go into lockdown the more lives you save, and on the face of it, it's hard to disagree. The problem the various authorities have is that this is just as much an economic emergency as much as it is a medical one. Trying to manage them both involves balancing one against the other. I'm glad I'm not the one having to make the decisions.Yes this is the link, read it all
There's been a lot of unfair criticism of the government on here. Fortunately that isn't the case in Westminster where, apart from justified criticism for compensation for the self employed and non contract workers, they mostly seem on board with government policy in their handling of the situation. I think that's because the government, for once, are acting on the advice of the experts.
I don't think it's a case of whether the UK go into full lockdown like we're seeing in Italy etc. It really is a case of WHEN we do it and that will be when the experts say the time is right. In making that decision I'm sure they will have all the stats and information contained in that report from medium.com, and working on those scenarios will have an educated guess at the true numbers of those infected here and when they will start to manifest themselves.
Personally I'll be surprised if we go much longer than another week before we start closing schools and colleges and ban sporting events and other large gatherings. As a layman I can't understand why we're still allowing large gatherings to take place, but all we can do is trust in the experts to do their job. As I said, it's not a role I envy in the slightest.
