So you've picked two examples which aren't really a fair portrayal of what is open: I don't see any coffee shops open, but I have seen bakeries for bread etc.

I do also see butchers, fish mongers, cheese shops (it's food) and takeaways (less of a necessity I accept) which are all feeing the country and providing a service.

As long as they're complying for social-distancing regulations like your wonderful supermarkets, I see no wrong doing; in fact, I expect that they're safer.
Any takeaways in our area are enforcing social distancing really strictly
Either ring ahead and order or arrive in person and order and wait outside
Really strict too
The local Chinese has a young girl that throws a wobbly and screams her head off if one too many enters the shop
Probably feeling guilty as its China's fault lol

I've actually only saw one takeaway near me that lets anyone in the shop. Any other ones that are open are delivery only. There were hardly any open until about 2 weekends ago.

Just asking out loud here

Why is it racist to not blame China for covid-19?

17 years ago Sara cov 1 started in China from bats apparantly.

Now sars cov 2 has started in China from bats apparantly.

But anyone who blames China is racist.
IMO the Chinese govt certainly has to take its share of the blame for this. China is the country that epidemiologists had their eyes on as the scene of the next big outbreak. But all govts have to take some blame for being so woefully under prepared for public health crises.

Most here are for delivery only, but if collection is an option then you do have to ring ahead and it's one or two in at a time to collect.

Personally, I feel that as long as they're enforcing social distancing it's good that they're open as it's contributing to the economy and the staff providing wages.

Over the weekend, we got a delivery from our local rotisserie and it added a bit of normality.

It’s clear our PM’s personal life is complete chaos.

Marriages, Affairs, Divorces, illegitimate children.

It’s no wonder his government is of the same ilk.

I'd be a little less judgemental of other people's personal lives impacting on the professional if I had posted this.

Exact same here, been doing it since the start of all this and it`s worked well.

I know some of the lads in one of the takeaways and they`ve had to take on more delivery drivers as they`re that busy.

I had my first one in about 6 weeks last Saturday night so it was good to do something normal again and get a break from cooking

Haven't we learned this week that there was a case in France before any had been identified in China?
