England = 430 people per sq KM - 195,000 cases, 29,427 deaths

Hong Kong = 6,659 people per sq KM - 1,000 cases, 4 deaths.
What has Hong Kong got to do with it? Your comment related to Europe and my response included a statement of our population density compared to other eu nations.

But, as you bring Hong Kong into the discussion, the lockdown in HK is being very strictly observed...far more than it is here. Also, anyone leaving HK is subject to quarantine on their return, so people aren’t leaving. Brits on the other hand were still happily swanning off on their package holidays while this all blew up and then demand to be brought home so that they can swan around here. Probably the same idiots that now travel down to the beach when the sun comes out. So that repeats my point regarding discipline.

And to be brutally honest, I don’t believe for one moment that those figures of deaths in Hong Kong are any more accurate than those being given for the death rates in the rest of china.

Seems very odd (she came round to his house and the husband knew), though the fact that it was apparently the Telegraph who broke that story might suggest this is rather more about him falling out with No.10 than anything else.
The woman has an open marriage apparently and considered Ferguson as one of the family and so no virus threat or whatever.
A bit thin I think. Definitely a red card and a hefty suspension.

We have not locked out airports or the channel tunnel down - planes are arriving 12, 000 passengers sat next to one another every week - it's pure madness imo
Are they getting tested? Isolated?
The daily death numbers are not decreasing that much .....it's a mess highest death rate in Europe.......
With this going on you don't have to wonder why..........

Your major point was that population density was crucial in determining which country in Europe would suffer more deaths. But density isn't the issue; strategy is.

By the way, Belgium and the Netherlands have greater population density than the UK.

First day back at work since 28th April, a marked difference, an increase in numbers people and behaviours. Lockdown and social distancing is all but finished...

Love this fella's chanel. He's like an american Louis Thereoux, only he hardly talks. He just lets people talk.
This is easily the best thing he's done. As funny as it is, it is equally terrifying.

Just 1 person and you'd mark it off as an anomaly... but this many idiotic people together... o_O

18 million allowed in the country after 1st Jan to the 23rd March lockdown.

What an absolute failure of government.

This is actually incorrect on a few points. Firstly given the population distribution you would expect Italy to fare much worse than us, especially as we had two weeks extra time to prepare.

Secondly it is clear that how well a country comes through this is a function of how early it takes action in the exponential rise of cases.

Our deaths would be an order of magnitude lower if we had locked down 10 days earlier as many were screaming at the time. This can be proven very easily mathematically.

Thirdly,if the report I read was accurate, Britains are actually complying with the rules better than most countries.

I have some sympathy with politicians struggling to sort things out now - but there is no excuse for the laissez faire attitude at the start of the pandemic. Their strategy has directly lead to thousands of extra deaths.
I agree with the general point that the earlier the lockdown the more effective it can be. But at the end of the day the success of a lockdown comes down to how well it is observed, not just how quickly it is introduced.

Yes, there is an argument that our lockdown should have come in earlier. But there was a rational thinking that herd immunity had to be acquired. Whilst they later abandoned that because of the inevitable high number of deaths that would occur within a short period of time, the fact remains that lockdown must end for the sake of the economy and the country as a whole.

There will still be plenty of deaths from this virus sadly, but they will just be spread over a longer period of time as lockdown is gently lifted and the virus works its way slowly through the population.

It will be easier to brush under the carpet if there is no huge second peak, third peak etc. Instead of peaks we will just have smaller “waves” which will keep coming until there is either herd immunity or an effective vaccine. The latter is still some way off, and even if we get one it will not be known for years whether it gives an adequate immune memory response.

The population distribution is of some relevance, but only when correlated with the effectiveness of a lockdown and how mobile the population is. In any event though population density is always relevant and ours is pretty high. Our density is 730 or so per square mile and Italy’s is 530 or so, and so I still don’t think it is surprising that our figures may be higher than theirs. The real truth of course will not be known until the dust has settled and true covid mortality figures are seen for each nation and there is a revision made for the differences in how the deaths/causes of deaths are reported and registered.
