Dave the reason they've eased lockdown here is that they cant enforce it.

They're gambling that if people can busy themselves with home improvement (the national obession) then they'll stay there longer. That's why home centres and garden centres are open.

As to well governed... which of the 9 governments that can't agree anything between them were you referring to?
Please don’t confuse Dave with genuine first hand experience of living in the country he’s referring to.

Is it a really stupid question to wonder how on earth so many are getting this virus in the first place, after weeks of lock down?
It is far from a stupid question, but we are doing almost zilch in terms of meaningful testing and tracing. Without that we will remain pretty much clueless. To achieve a decent level of testing and tracing would involve a level of competence and understanding that is way, way above the capabilities of this lot. I thought it was telling that Priti Dim was going on about crime levels during the briefing today. Completely irrelevant, but something they have some understanding of so lets pretend its a serious problem.

Sadly I fear this fumbling around will destroy the economy.

Mass unemployment, tax hikes and pension raids on those who come out the other end I fear.

There's ways to get things up and running, retail should be one of the first as it can be controlled just like supermarkets. As long as we don't have major gatherings like football, music and other events we should be ok with social distancing to carry on with life. Anywhere that can attract more than 50 people should be avoided for the next 12 months. Everything else can be monitored now we have the r value beneath 1.

Its ludicrous that we are only 2 weeks away from lockdown being over and the Government have mentioned nothing of what will be happening next.

Absolutely crazy.

It's not that I want to defend this shambolic government, but I suspect that as soon as it's announced that the lockdown will be eased in X number of days, many people will not wait for the target date but will try to resume "normal life" asap.

Thats in her brief though isnt it? I agree that its not #1 priority for most folk, but she was going on about folk chancing their arm on the back of this thing.

I agree - but if it takes another 4-6 weeks before the Government come to that conclusion the economy may well be in the deep stuff.

I'd rather them demonstrate some sort of competence regarding testing, provision of PPE etc.

Tbf its not like people can go anywhere though is it mate?

Its already alot busier out - you could argue should they ease up in two weeks and open back up shops, cafe's and get people back into work it'll help ease the building tension in the natives rather than the inevitable hundreds in parks and on beaches once people have had enough of lockdown which I feel is the case.

Nothing will likely be mentioned until it’s reviewed again in week 8, if the numbers start tumbling then they may start putting relaxations in place between weeks 9-11 which would take us into the first week of June, by the following week we should see all businesses back in operation but still holding to social distancing

There will be a massive bill for the lockdown, but that’s what the media and the noisemakers were demanding we do. So now we are where we are. We will recover quite quickly I believe, the furloughing and grants were strokes of genius tbh, but obviously the borrowing will have to be paid back. Personally I believe that most businesses are confident and it’s shown that the difficult early days of Brexit will be a walk in the park by comparison. I don’t think there will be mass or even Large scale unemployment as every business will be wanting to get back up to speed quickly. There will be tax hikes but Boris is no idiot, it will be targeted on those that can afford it.....

We should be meeting the 5 factors that will enable us to lift lockdown. The NHS are not under pressure, death rates are coming down daily even though how they report it is all over the place. Infection rates may rise due to the increase in testing so that should be judged as a percentage. We should be easing this in 2 weeks.
