Devil and deep blue sea

Yes it's not an easy balance to get right, impossible really. The root of the problem is often patients being far more reluctant to attend hospital for crucial referrals - thinking the attendant risk in doing so too great, but as this continues the cancers are only either treated too late, when they've reached a stage 3 or even 4 and/or there's often only palliative care left to offer, it's just too advanced and almost certainly metastasised and become widespread elsewhere.

Another 813 people died, numbers not dropping at all, there is no way this lockdown is ending on the 7th May at the next review - will be another 3 weeks extension

Horrible RIP.

I'm also a bit concerned about the daily positive figure, at this stage (weirdly) you would hope they would be increasing and that is good news as it generally means you are testing more and contact tracing at this point. Higher positive numbers and failing death rates are where you want to be at this point.

The UKs positive figures have just bounced around 4-5k for a couple of week now.

Would need to see the transmission rate, hospital admission etc, though it does seem like the UK are performing poorly in comparison to other nations (USA aside). We also don't report recoveries so our active case graph looks nearly identical to the total cases which makes it harder to tell what effect the measures are having. That being said numbers plateauing is a representation of the lockdown having an effect, even if we all want to see more as it's such a sad situation.

The number is dropping. There was never going to be a sudden steep decline in the daily death rate.

4855 deaths in the past seven days.

5589 deaths in the seven days before that.

5562 deaths in the seven days before that.

The worst single day by death count was over two weeks ago.

It needs to drop a good bit more before we can relax any rules imo. It's still far too high.
