To illustrate my point on the in accuracy of the UK data. The same seems to be happening in Spain to.

The Spanish and Catalan administrations are disagreeing on R.I.P figures.

The Catalan government have had access to funeral homes data and the figures double what Spain is giving for the region. Officially the Spanish numbers say 3855 deaths for the region, but the funerals homes say the figure does not include, 1,180 death in nursing homes, 456, deaths at home, 60 deaths in hostals etc and 914 deaths that the place of death is not clear. That is an extra 2,540 deaths, the worrying thing is that Spain is not arguing it, just saying they use a different criteria and their criteria is the official one.

Prisons are also likely to have high mortality figures that I doubt will get reported quickly.

Inspired by @peteblue been reading a bit about the German strategy and application of combating this virus.

By Mid January (Mid January FFS) Germany had self developed, self produced and self distributed its own testing throughout its health service and country as well as contact tracing infrastructure.

Most countries now after three months of this aren’t close to this and fighting with each other for resources to try and get close to this for May/June.

I'm told, by a friend, that the goto source for EU excess deaths is Euromomo

Thanks.

Oddly Germany seems to report their figures in two groups (labelled Berlin and Hesse) anyone have any idea why or of if it is the full data for the country?

Looking at the data Norway, which has an aggressive testing program, has no spike in deaths above average.

@marnie Greece looks pretty good too,

Thanks.

We are,I put this down to the lockdown measures that have been instilled, and the people following them. With a nation that has over 160 inhabited islands,it was imperative to act fast.2220 cases and 108 (sadly) deaths says that.We will not be coming out of this lockdown for at least a month. To me they have handled it brilliantly.

Thanks.

Hessen is a Bundesland (like a county, or state), as is Berlin. Not sure what you're referring to. The Robert Koch Institut is the go-to for official German numbers, see the screenshot below. Berlin & Hessen have their own numbers alongside the other 14 Bundesländer:

Thanks for the explanation. I was referring to the German data in the Euromomo that @Catfish Blues provided a link to that seems to be one of the best sources for European data on excess deaths that are a way of seeing the full impact on a country of Covid that may not be reflected in the coronavirus data. I wonder if the other 14 Bundesländer report their data separately to Euromomo or if it can be found elsewhere.
