Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Was just thinking this.

How can they give a timeline without knowing the spread. If they said two months and it was three they'd be pilloried.
I don't have a lot of sympathy for the politicians or CMOs but that was simply a question trying to catch them out.

This next question on testing is a meaningful one, re. testing, it seems.

Regarding any future very gradual easing of the current restrictions - once the peak has well past, and there is now mounting pressure to give some idea on what may be proposed...

Whether they go down well on here will be totally dependant on not what or when it is proposed to be relaxed but entirely on who proposed it..

I envisaged a possible way forward with as late as the start of June a possible starting point for very limited easing while keeping the old and vulnerable shielded for some time.

So three steps

Schools back and dentists, doctors surgeries (where restricted now) to open fully if safety measures for staff in place.

Some none non essential businesses open in second phase (obviously very vague as what could and couldn't open would take some detailed working) and some offices open where measures to limit contact is practically possible, working from home to still be widespread however.

Targeted return to work for less vulnerable age groups with no underlying health conditions.

This is nowhere near detailed or anything like a plan but a rough outline on where to start.

What would stay in place

Old and vulnerable shielded for some time to come

mass testing ramped up so a large proportion of the population tested at regular intervals - Regular testing of healthcare and care home staff prioritised.

Social distancing (where practical and possible)

Work from home whenever and where ever possible

No mass gatherings with sports grounds closed to spectators

i got castigated for even suggesting an indefinite widespread lockdown would not only continue to cause. havoc and an unprecedented recession in this country, Europe and worldwide but it would continue to have dire consequences for deaths from other extremely serious diseases (such as cancer).

Here it primarily depends who suggests it of course.

But what a thirst those 6 would have
I would normally have a gallon on a Sat night
I am going for the full dozen the first night I go back lol
Which will be a midweek night a few days after they open
The missus went to Lidl today.Her.....'Do you need anything' Me 'Yeah 48 cans of Ermhz lager' Her 'FFS that's not essential' Me 'It is at that price' Her 'How much is it ?' Me 69 cents a pint ' She came back with 4 cases for me lol lol lol

Re Wales, take a second look at the age related to the female spikes.
Yeah the nursing home residents theory doesn’t seem to fit with the Wales data as the skew is working age. Is there a good testing program for healthcare workers in Wales? About 75% are female iirc so if they make up a high number fo the tested that may make a difference.

There is no hospitalized vs positive numbers or a breakdown of the deaths by age/sex so hard to know if that difference in cases is being reflected in more severe outcomes.

Graphs continuing to show progress....

The data is unreliable though.

They dont include Care Home and Community RIPs. While the infection rate is only as good as the number of test you do. I'm sure they are doing their best and its good to see test numbers increase.

But i dont take the UK numbers to literally or believe their reliably to be honest. Im not calling a conspiracy theory on the government purposely fudging them, the government themselves have acknowledged they dont have the ability or infrastructure to report accurately anything in the UK bar hospital related numbers at the moment. Therefore its hard to draw any meaningful conclusion.

Don’t be too paranoid, others have suggested similar re the economics.....

Know you aren't in the UK, Legs, but Witty - our CMO - has just said, and they're not sure why, males seem to be more susceptible to getting this seriously.

They are starting to though Neiler. They made a point of that on the graph for cumulative cases and deaths etc. If you look at the graph there's two categories for UK (in hospital, and including everything else).

It's acting as a guideline, just like every country.

There definitely needs to be improvement and like you say they've acknowledged it, but they are now getting there with the accurate figures they do have.

I've said before but i know six people who have had the symptoms of this - all recovered, thankfully. Only one got tested (and tested positive). Multiply that 1/6 rate around the country and think how many people have got this without knowing for sure. And that means that the mortality rate is still a lot lower even if the actual number of deaths right now is higher than the official figures show.

Is anyone else experiencing opportunism for their employers at the moment ??
Like most I've been furloughed - but received a letter yesterday from work with a request to sign away your contract rights in relation to lay offs in the future all cunningly woven into what they would have you believe is standard furlough protocol etc...etc.
Swines

Most employers will may hay over this virus ... but then if you have a job to go back to in good health ....but I agree with you opportunism is there to be exploited .... by some of the unscrupulous ones ........ there will be many of them, but some will be considerate, but not many.......
