I am saying that folk think wearing a home made mask prevents, or reduces the chance they will get it.

Staying 6 foot apart, not going out, and washing hands are all far more effective. Ergo, a placebo.

A placebo does nothing, yet wearing a mask does help reduce the spread. You can argue how much of a difference it makes but I don't get arguing it does nothing when scientists suggest it does help.

The other actions in conjunction with it all help limit the spread.

there is no doubt People are wearing them thinking it protects them rather than thinking it prevents them transmitting it . The whole mask debate seems to be completely arse about face . people seem focused on it as PPE rather than it’ll be used to protect, mostly inadequately , the wider community .

the asymptomatic are the problem though and I heard a rough stat that a decent mask might reduce chances of transmission by around 20% .

It isn’t an either or though, both should be used, they certainly are here in California.

The “don’t go out with a cough” to reduce the transmissiom from those with symptoms , the “wear mask for others” for the asymptotic ones which seem to be a major vector in the spread, especially younger people.

What an absolutely useless incompetent shithouse of a man Matt Hancock is. Had the audacity on TV to say "there isn't enough demand for covid-19 tests" like testing should be getting done all over the country not just on people with obvious signs so we can have a good idea of the true transmission rate.

Isn’t what he said though, is it? The capacity set aside for care workers and their immediate families wasn’t fully utilised for whatever reason.

Don’t think testing the general public as a whole is exactly a good idea either, unless there’s enough capacity to set up testing stations to process testing in every village, town and city with drive through facilities to ensure social distancing.
